I know but, your new knob compliments the colour of the car

yes it does....they got the color so close you would have to hold it right next to it to tell the difference.

and they can do ANY color too.

Looks great, Nuke! I noticed you trimmed back the boot, as well.

NOPE, didn't trim the boot at all...been thinkin about it...but its a pain in the butt to take it off PROPERLY...you need to remove the entire console.....I just TUCKED it in at the bottom....looks better than all crumpled up around the shaft of the shifter.

Nuke, to pick up on this older thread, I am interested in having a shift knob created by EPCO. My question is - is the B&M short shifter kit the reason you had to make the sleeve to fit between the knob and the boot? I don't have the kit and am hoping that it isn't needed.

(See, kids, Bondo did a search for the information he wanted!)

NO....not at all. if you remove your stock shift knob and look inside you will see that the actual threaded insert is WAY up there....so when you install it, the STEM as I will call it, of the shift knob goes over the shaft and reaches down to the boot. the knob I had made is a sphere. and thus the threaded insert is RIGHT at the bottom of the knob...so when you thread it on....no part of the new knob drops down over the remainder of the shaft to cover it up. the hole in the knob IS deep enough that the entire thing covers the threaded portion of the shifter though...there would be NO exposed threads....

another thing....on EPCO's website it states the size for the type shift knob I got was either 2 inch or 2 1/4 inch....I called and talked to them personally and I had one made 1 7/8 inch diameter....so if you want something a little special...call and talk to them personally they may be able to accomodate you....they did tell me that 1 7/8 was the absolute smallest for what I wanted done..because of the engraving on top of the knob....and it didn't cost me any more to have something a little different either.

as far as the boot is concerned.....what you COULD do is come up with a way to keep the stock shift boot up higher on the shaft and you won't have a need for the spacer I made....you could try to put another groove up higer for the E clip...or possibly just use a Ty-rap under it.

Bob, something else you may want to do .... call them up...and ask them to send you their broucher that they have for their shift knobs.....I never saw one since what I wanted was fairly simple, but they sent me one with my order...its kind of big so scanning it all and posting it isn't feasible really....but I bet they would mail you one in a heart beat....it will just give you a better idea or MORE ideas of what they can do.
