So I've begun the MSF class this week and yesterday I was the winning bid for an '89 Suzuki GS500. I should be more excited about this, since I've been itching to ride for over a year, but the reaction from my family and most of my friends has really gotten me down. The phrases I hear most often is "What, you don't have enough excitement in your life?" and "Are you trying to get killed?" I suppose that I don't need to justify myself to anyone, since I am an adult after all, but I don't want to cause any undue stress for my family either....sorry about the rant, just want to voice my thoughts. What do you guys think?

Congrats man. Welcome to the 2 wheel crew. Good choice on a first bike too. Ride safe.

Dont worry what they all say. Chock it up to them being envious of your new hobby and your testicular fortitude to try something new.

Yeah I hear the negative speak all the time AND I haven't even bought a good bike yet, been toting around town on 400cc single cylinder 1980 Suzuki, its a kick start hehe.

I also took the MSF course, you are going about this the best way I think.

Congrats!

All my friends laughed at me. I bought it anyway. Now they all
a) want rides
b) bought their own

as far as family goes, my moms not too happy, but she's more comfortable with it now that I took the course and I sat down and showed her my lid and jacket, explaining where all the armor is, etc.

congrats, i got my permit a while back and got the same sentiment from my family. i just want the option of being able to ride a bike if i wanted to. not that i ever see mysef commuting or anything.

I get similar comments. My wife bought me a bike for christmas. The most common commnet I get is :"is she trying to kill you?"

It's a mean little monster....LOL

Good choice on the bike, and takeing the MSF class. You'll have to get used to everyone who doesn't ride making comments. Everyone has a friends brothers uncle who was hurt or killed on a motorcycle and will feel instantly compelled to tell you about it when they find out you ride.
