Goofy Factory alarm???

Hey Guys,
The weirdest thing happened to me this morning. I used the remote to unlock the doors of my car this morning. When I opened the door, the consistent chime was sounding (the same one you would hear if you left your lights on after pulling the key out) I sat down and checked the headlight switch but both the markers and the headlights were off. I walked outside the car and sure enough, the marker lights were illuminated!! WTH? So I sit back down in the car and twist the headlight switch on and off. No difference. I get out of the car, shut the door and start locking and unlocking the car with the remote. Finally on one of the attempts, I hit the button once to lock the doors (no difference) but on the second hit (where the horn would beep AND the lights would flash) the marker lights finally went out. Woo HOo!! Thought the problem was over. NOT! I pressed the UNLOCK button on the remote and the markers came on and stayed on again. ARRGG!! Already late for work so drove the car as is. Pulled into th e parking lot at work and the markers were off. Good! But then I got out of the car and hit the remotte to lock and the markers stayed on. Remebering the technique from before, I hit the remote "lock" again and the horm beeped and the markers turned off.

Does anyone have ANY idea what the heck could be going on here?

Thanks

Yeah, your Code Alarm has gone south. Take it in to your dealer and get it replaced under warranty before it drains your battery and leaves you stranded.

And let us know what your rental car is. :D

time for a new control module for you alarm, search for it, the alarm has had many problems with headlights staying on.

Wow! Seems to be a widespread problem. Just wonderful. Like I really want a POS rental for the weekend. Dealer said that they'll take it in the AM tomorrow but won't touch it till Monday. YEAH RIGHT!! I'm going to leave my car in their parking lot all weekend??? Don't think so.
Going to see if I could get it to kick off somehow and then just use the key till Monday appointment. They'll have my rental waiting.. Yippee. NOT!

Mine started 2 days ago.

Yeah mine started 2 days ago. You arm your alarm and the marker light stays on and the dash lights and the tone that constantly stays on. When I disarm and tap on the module the tone disappears. Right now I just manually lock the door until my appointment (8-25-03). I don't even have 300 miles on my car yet and I get the alarm module bug like everyone early.(doh)

I had that happened to me last week and it drained my battery. I took it to the dealer this morning and have that it replace for free under warranty.

One thing that i did not notice until last night is that the red light on the dash is on ALL OF THE TIME now. Just illuminates much dimmer (why I only noticed it while driving around last night). That now stays on whether the car is on or off. Maybe the makers of the alarm had no idea about the rough ride they were going to get in our stiffly sprung cars. :)

Appointment 8/11/03 7:30am. Rental will be waiting.

Proably will also have the dealer look at:
-Clunk growing louder
-Speaker that occasionally rattles like it is dead.
-Steering wheel tilted to left.

just lock your doors manually, and don't use the remote. that'll hold you over. Everything else points to a alarm brain that's gone fubar

Yeah... Can't use the key to lock the door from the outside either since that will flash the lights. Have to either use the power lock button on the inside or manually push the lock down. Fun fun fun..

VegasMSP, how`re you liking that blazing yellow mica MSP? I was thinking of waiting for that color to come out.....but when I saw the black mica.....I just had to get it!!(wow) (mspblack)

By the way, when you take your ride in....make sure that they check all the clamps on your coolant hoses. Appearantly thanks to the Vegas heat, they like to give way and start leaking. Just a little FYI that you might be interested in.(2thumbs)

Also...have you heard anything about the Vegas meet this month?

Great to see some Vegas MSP's! Maybe I'll actually run into you guys at SEMA this year. :)
Too bad my car does not fit in my "carry-on luggage."

When and where is SEMA this year in Vegas? I`ve been trying to catch it since last year.

3rd?????? Oh great....

SEMA is at the LV Convention Center right off the strip. 2 or 3 blocks from the Stratosphere. I think it is in the 1st week of Nov this year.

Im starting to notice these things myself... the front right door speaker rattles on some songs, and the clunk, well i am noticing it now.. but its not annoying yet.

Warranties a good thing...

Warranties are good but since I'm driving 35k per year.... It won't be around long. Then what??? Don;t want to buy a new car every 1.5 years.

That speaker rattle (on the front passenger side) is really confusing. Certain songs yes. But then the same song, same volume on the next day.... no rattle. I had an appointment to take the car into the shop for the rattle about a month ago but 2 days b4 the appointment, the rattle was gone and did not come back till 2 weeks ago. Now it's gone again. I even pulled the door panel off (during a high rattle day) because I thought there was a screw rolling around between the speaker and the door panel that would rattle sometimes then maybe get stuck once in a while and not rattle. But like I said, no rattle today but who knows what tomorrow brings.......

Err Hi z00mer! Yellow is not to shabby, the gold flake makes stand out more (like yellow isn't obvious):p Yellow gets more attention then I intended. But it all goes well since my other friends have a yellow IS300, yellow wrx, and yellow S2000.(I forsee a yellow car snapshot in the near future) :D

Cool! I'll make sure they look over the clamps. But I'll check them out since I'll be under the hood of this car alot more. Haven't heard anything about the meet except whats under the nevada forums on this board. Last I heard it was on the 15th or 16th of this month. But if it's on that weekend I probably won't make it since 3 girls are coming down from Seattle that weekend and I'll be tied up w/ them partying in the bars and clubs:D

And the rental car is.......

A LOVELY WHITE MAZDA 626!! I must have got the upgrade package cause I have leather, fake chrome around the transmission lever, and the vents that automatically swing side-to-side!

Would have proabably been a nice car if it were not abused for 6300 miles. Badly balanced tires and 70mph don't mix too well. :)

No call yet but they claim I'll have the car back on Tuesday.

Let us know how the dealer repair works out. My alarm/parking lights are doing the same thing described in this thread. I've made an appointment with the dealer, but I'd like to point them in the right direction before they tear apart half the car diagnosing the problem. Is there a technical service bulletin I can mention specifically, or does anyone know the part number of the control module in question? Does replacing the module always fix the problem? Or does it recur again in the future?
