hey this is a cool forum. anyway, I own a 02 mp3 . the rear brakes are the oe drum setup. I have had a weird creaking noise from the rear brakes under mild braking for the entire time i've owned the car ( 2 yrs). Does anyone know what the @#$^&%$#!! is causing the noise? Ive turned the drums several times, lubed the backing plates, beveled the edges of the shoes. Any ideas short of changing it over to 4whl disc( not that I dont want to but dont have the dough).

Ummmm...
It sounds to me that you don't really have a MP3. The MP3 is only a 2001 model year. Also, it had 4 wheel disk brakes standard. Do you have badging that says MP3?? If possible try to get a picture or two of the car, so we can find out what car it is, and check if you have a 2.0 L engine. It sounds like you might have a MP3 conversion with a different Protege (maybe lx or dx cause ex also had 4 disk brakes). And about the noise, I have no idea.

BTW, welcome to the forum ;)

my bad. I guess i'm one of the morons who assumed mp3 meant mazda protege 3rd generation. It is a 2002 protege DX 2.0 5speed with @$#%^%ing rear drum brakes.
