Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring vs. Continental True Contact

I haven't tried either of the tires, but I've been doing research in what tires I would get when it comes time to replacing the stock tires.

I plan on getting the Conti True Contacts. It is one of the newest tires available for the 17" tire size, which came out in 2014, where the Goodyear Comfortred dates back to 2004. Tire tech has moved on quite a bit, especially in regards to fuel efficiency. The Conti's are low rolling resistance rated while the Goodyear comfortreds are not.

In the latest comparison test for the Goodyear Comfortred, it placed 3rd vs it's competition, one of them being the Conti Procontacts, which I have on my Prius. The Conti procontacts are stock tires for a large number of cars ranging from C and E class Benz's to Ford focus's and Escapes. The procontacts have proven to be really good and made me a believer of Continental tires.

In the latest test for the Conti True Contacts, it was awarded first place against it's competition and a higher overall score vs the Goodyear Comfortred, 7.49 vs 6.91, assuming they're rated on the same scale.

Being out here in CA, my top concerns are fuel economy, dry and wet braking/handling performance and ride comfort/noise. Snow performance isn't too big of an issue for me. And the Conti True Contacts seem to meet all those expectations very well.

On tirerack, the Conti's are also cheaper than the goodyears, $119ea vs $149.

It would be good to hear back from anybody who has actual real life experience with any of these tires.

I did swap stock Michelins to Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring on my Honda Odyssey.

The Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring were very quiet in comparison to the former Michelins.

I am planning to switching to them when time comes on our CX-5s.

Goodyear originally had "Assurance ComforTred ..then updated to Assurance ComforTred "Touring" is there any difference in gas mileage and handling between the two? How did they comfortreds handle compared to the Michelin & which Michelin did you have?
I currently have the Latitude Tours on my '14 CX-5 touring. I installed those shortly after purchasing my CX thinking it would ride smoother. The handling was much more 'sure footed' and confident verses the YOKOs, but noise and harshness over bumps is not so great.

I did go with the tourings as all reviews/users did rate those much better than non touring version.

I don't remember which Michellins I had. Whatever OEM 2007 Odysseys had.

Assurance ComforTred "Touring" were much, much quieter than stock ones. The handling was not worse for sure. I did not notice any substantial differences in wet/snow/etc. Tournings looked much better too due to their side walls having nice looking pattern.

I am very curious how tournings would perform with 17" CX-5. I have no complaints of any sort with stock tires CX-5 has.

Thanks for taking the time to give me that information. I appreciate it! One other question, do you have the "new style mirrors" with turn signals on the front of the mirror, if so are they noisy or no?

Update - Installed Continental "True Contact" on Mazda cx-5 touring....Excellent tire thus far. Quieter than stock yokos, & Michelin latitude tour. Good steering response, more comfortable ride & LESS NOISE!!!

Once my Toyos wear out I will be going with the Contis as well. I will go with DWS as snow can be encountered here.

I would definitely go with the Contis. I've always had good experience with them. Opposite with Goodyears. I've hated every set of Goodyears I've tried. The Goodyears, wore too quickly, rode badly, & we're not good in the rain. The 2 sets of Continentals were great all around.

Has anyone tried either of these tires?

I was going to try the True Contact, but I IM'ed a TireRack consultant online on their site, and asked what the difference is between the True and the Cross contact LX20 tires. He told me that the True would do SLIGHTLY better in the snow, but handle worse in every other area. I chose the Cross Contact LX20, and I am very pleased with them so far in monsoon type rains, and on dry roads. I have not tested them in snow. I will say though that the tread DOES pick up a fair amount of pea-gravel.

ETA: Noted they feel more "sure" and are quieter than the stock Geolanders, which were about 70% through their life, or thereabouts.

Consumer Reports also rated the Conti Cross Contact Lx20's highly. Should be very good tires.

Before I had Conti's on my old Maxima I always thought of Continental as just budget tire company that wasn't anything special

So did I, until I saw them as OEM's on the BMW E92 M3 that I raced one day. That made me step back and go "Hmmmm..." considering that the owner raced on an actual track (one with corners) somewhat frequently and seemed to like them, as well.

As a datapoint, my 370Z with Berk catback was pretty even with the E92, although the guy made excuses, I saw him again another day and ran him again, and was still dead even with him...hmmm

I am getting some 17" truecontacts on my 2014 CX5 AWD touring. I will report back compared to the stock yokos. But I expect to be pleasantly surprised.

Had the Continental True Contact and they were good. Smooth and quiet on pavement. Good traction on dry and wet roads with with absolutely zero hydroplaning.
