First off thanks Sir Nuke for all his help - he deserves the "Newbie Helper award".

I also found a good article which covers many different shifting techniques, for normal and racing style driving such as heal toe shifting, rev-matching, double clutching, downshifting, upshifting and cornering while double clutching blah blah blah, so here it is, i learnt a lot too, guess it's time to hit the tracks this weekend and practice.:D

thanks for the link. yeah time to see if they really work, well come to think of it they work, but can I do em? :(

Ditto on the thanks for the link...it'll come in handy at autoX perhaps...I'm doing ok at it, just need to get the techniques down a bit better. I'd really like to get the left foot braking going...heard it can be a pretty good thing to know in competitive autoX racing.

Yea np, too me awhile to find a good detailed page. I read it all and can picture doing it, but you all know it's totally different when you're on the road.

Good luck on the AutoX.

Initial D!

Wanna watch a wild heal and toe shifting, rev-matching, double clutching, downshifting, upshifting, cornering PLUS super-wild DRIFTING animation movie? Check out Initial D. It's sooo outrageous, but the animation is very cool. The sound is awesome and they refer to cars in terms of their engines not by the car model name or manufacturer brand.

Unfortunately, you'll either have to understand Japanese or be able to read Chinese subtitles. I had to make do with the latter option. Although, if you're really into the car race scene... just watching and listening to the rumbling noise of all those modified cars is sort of cool... albeit, suckie when you sort of want to get into the storyline though.

I'm currently trying to find free time to watch the SECOND STAGE. First stage consisted of 8 VCDs, second has less... maybe 5 discs or so. They even have movie episodes out of this series. Only problem I have is I don't understand some of the jargons they use to describe the technics of drifting and engine modification. LOL. Good stuff though. :D

thanks Noodles.....but really......isn't it what we are ALL here for? helping one another? all of us were new to the car sceen "once upon a time".....just so happens that was a LONG time ago for me.....and I have learned a LOT along the way....not nearly all of it was with imports either....but so much of it applies to ANY car you are driving.......just listen and learn....read and learn.....do and learn......and when someone comes along that doesn't know? be happy and willing to lend a helping hand to the NEWBIE, because YOU love the sport.....he will appreciate it.....and your kindness will be paid back 10 fold someday.

:D

Allen, a friend of mine let my group of friends borrow a bootlegged copy of Initail D, with english subtitles...man that show is awsome. haha It's like a primer for the street raceing world, with raceing techinques, driveing styles, how to take a turn, what cars are good for what, and so on... The second stage (second season)'s animation is FAR better than the first, both in animation and 3-D. I recomend everyone watch this. hehe

Do you by chance know where I could get a copy of the English subtitled version of Intial D? I don't care if I can't get the bootleg version, because it's worth the money to pay for the full version. I prefer watching the series in English if possible (I kind of struggle when I read the Chinese subtitles), but I couldn't find any online through the internet. I am borrowing the Initial D series that I'm watching right now and it's also a VCD bootleg version, only it comes with Chinese subtitles instead of English.

The Evos made the story interesting. Oh, another thing is sometimes I misunderstand the context of the story because the sentence means one thing, but not exactly what is printed on the screen. Such as... when the girl calls the "no face" guy who drives her around in his Benz, "Daddy" or better yet, "Pa Pa"... well, it isn't exactly her father even though that is exactly how they phrase it in the subtitle. I didn't get it at first until my friend (who understands Chinese way better than me) clarified it to me. :D

I heard, but haven't had time to watch, the part where the Evo 3 leader (Ryoichi?) suppose to race the 2nd generation RX-7 (Takashi Ryoske?). I hear that race is suppose to be the best scene out of the two series so far. Can't wait until I get to that part! I've just got done watching the part where the 86 challenged the Evo 4. :)

It's funny how those leaders can understand how a driver drives and how a car performs after just a few GLANCES at them!! Especially when they didn't give the 86 "Corolla" a single thought until it kicked their asses! Oh also, they come into another territory and dominate the corners and turns without much practice prior to the races against local champs such as the RS32. SOOOO outrageous.... but great fun to watch. Their models of the vehicles and animation is very good. Has a blend of gaming console design in them. ;)
