Good laptops

man apple all the way. and i dont know what your issue is with "compatible with portugal". its a computer. Im in italy right now on my macbook pro and have been all over europe with it. the only thing at all you would need is this.... its the only thing you would need with any laptop no matter what brand or operating system it is...
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...ore.woa/wo/2.RSLID?mco=47FFCC51&nplm=M8794G/B
(of course you can go cheaper and just buy a $2 adapter. ALL laptops are designed to take US or euopean current)

and in my opinion the percentage of europeans on mac is the same as in america. i see jsut as many apple logos on peoples cars and vespas here. but most people here dont have thier own computers like everyone i know in the states.

also.....i used to sell laptops for a living so i can tell you about thier quality. never ever purchase hp or compaq. say what you will but i have talked to FAR too many people about having thier hp and compaqs crap out (ive had 2 that f*ed up on me) to realize you honestly get what you pay for. The only brands i would seriously consider would be Mac Sony or Fujitsu. I used to own a sony and that worked great for me. but i am an architecture student so i require the uses of the mac.

I had a compaq that ran like a champ for 5 years. It's all about maintenace and keeping your PC clean and streamlined. I'd go with a dell laptop.

Oh and as an architecture student you "prefer" the use of a mac cuz I guarantee you an architectural student with a comprable (and probably less expensive) PC can do everything you can do and do it just as fast too.

I'm just tired of the notion that PC's are inferior to macs for design for some reason. It's all hype. Smoke and Mirrors. With apple, you're buying to an image more than anything else. They put out quality, well designed (if slightly overpriced products) but like I said my custom built PC looks good, it stable as any mac I've ever used and runs all my software without complaint and is highly scaleable and upgradeable without having to buy a whole new comp.

yes i should have wrote prefere instead of must have had. like i said...i did all the same stuff with my sony a few months ago. but i am very happy with my mac. its all preference, im not here to convert anyone. i hate religion for the same reasons.

but i know there are some to defend compaq/hp.....but i would stay as far away from those companies as possible. also... i do like dell laptops, however they structure thier company to where if you want ot do upgrades you would have to purchase those only through dell so they're able jack up the prices on that.

mp3architect, have you tried installing any software while in Italy? Or any game or play any music, from there? Any problems?
I might just buy one here and take it with me. But then, I'd need to buy a keyboard for the accents and all the marks on letters and also buy a program for writing in Portuguese. Hmmmm....

ive been to several large stores here in europe (saturn in germany and i cant remember the chain here in italy) and its just like going to best buy. the programs are the same boxes as you'd find in the states and the same exact software. its all from japan anyways im not sure why you think that euro and american software and computers are so different.

only cause few years ago I brought a DVD and a game and tried running it on my cousins desktop and it wouldn't work. Comp was fairly new and more than decent. I guess I'm just getting worked up over nothing. Guess all I have to do really is buy an external keyboard(some of the letters is easier than assigning certain ones onto the american keyboard) and set the language setting to Portuguese on windows. If I set the language setting to another language. DoesnMS Word automatically have that alphabet and dictionary and whatnot for the language or do I have to buy something?

Shows how much I really know about computers.(freak)

Personally... I don't like HP or Compaq. Dell make good products. I've never been much of a mac person, but now you can run win xp on it, that could be very interesting!

We use IBMs at work and I have to support them... I don't like IBM ;-)

We had Toshiba laptops before and those were great (we would still have them, but the gov here has a contract with IBM)... solid computers, even in Fire Camps.... If I had the choice I'd go Dell or Toshiba!

vaios are overpriced. You pay the biggest premium for a vaio notebook, while the technology is the same as the competitors.

I managed to get this sleek HP laptop for around 400 bucks with a big price mistake: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?threadid=274408

Check out http://www.slickdeals.net/ for other laptop deals, usually on dells.
When I think laptops, I think design, weight, overall "tighness." I don't play games on laptops, so hardware is not my first priority--it is portability, and therefore, design.
