Gonna Try Something....accord type R lip

It's not just gonna bolt right up. Just so you know, lol. My OCD got the best of me and I removed mine a couple months ago. It's in 2 pieces in my living room. To fit the contours of the bumper (p5/msp/mp3 bumper, at least) you have to work with it.

Yeah I know it's going to be a bit of work. I got the time right now so hopefully with a bit of heat and elbow grease I can get it to a point where I'm happy with it. It's kinda just something to do since I'm layed off right now. I'm anal about hings looking good so we'll see if I can get it on right or if I just blew 53 bucks

Pardon me if I'm mistaken but aren't there already threads AND pics of this upinheeya?

Like this one? With pics...........search = answers...pretty often

Well Yes those are 99-00 protege sedans, I'm gonna try it on my P5. A few people have used the OEM lip of the accord and since I can't find one of those I'm gonna try the $53 ebay type R one.... If I don't like I'll scrap it

Dimensions should be the same in regards to the oem lip I have. So here's what I started to do but put on a 2 month hiatus, lol. I cut 3" out of the middle of the lip, added 3" onto each end, wrapped the ends around so they come behind the bumper, and now I just need to rejoin the 2 halves back together & prep & paint it. Just no time lately.

What I had issues with, was how the curves of the bumper just didn't quite line up. With a heat gun and elbow grease I got it to where I was happy, for a little while. But over time it moved, and after scraping it a couple times it just wasn't doing it for me anymore.

Dig deeper grasshoppa, it's all in here..............

Ok, thanks for posting links to threads I've already looked at! That's the OEM Accord lip, I tried to find one from a local junk yard but couldn't find one...So I'm trying the "type-R" style lip from ebay. There are several threads about the OEM lip on the P5 but no one has tried the type R lip on a P5 that I know of. On the 99-00 sedans yes, P5's no.

the accord OEM doesnt even fit around the corners completely. looks tacky. im hoping an aftermarket lip would fit better.

Oh sorry, missed your post about all the threads you've already looked at on here! Good luck, hope it fits better than the oem one.

If it's aftermarket for a P5 then yeah, it should fit better than something made for another car.

Yeah, Sorry, I guess next time I start a thread for something I should include the amout of time I've spent searching about the topic and make a list of all the websites and threads that I have looked at for that topic. Seriously, do you think I'm an idiot? If other people had done an aftermarket lip conversion, why would I start a thread called, "Gonna try something New"? If you don't like what I'm going to try then just get out. Bottom line, it's my car, my money, my time, I'm going to try it, if it works cool, if not O well. But hey thanks for all your help full input on this!!!

An Update... I got the lip in the mail yesterday. Took it out of the box and held it up to the front bumper. It's a bit wider then the P5 bumper so it's going to be some work to get it to wrap around the corners the right way. I should be able to start installing it tommorow. I'm heading out know to get a heat gun and some body panel scews to help attach it. The lip came with a little bag of stainless nuts and bolts but I have a feeling more will be needed. More updates soon to come!!!

Yeah, maybe mere mention of already searching woulda covered that. People start repetitive OMG check this out threads all the time thinkin it's new so whatever on that s***. Damn straight it's your ****** car, your ****** money & your ****** time. If you don't think that is obvious beyond a doubt to everyone that you even need to say it then yes, I think you are an idiot. I never said or implied anything about not likin what you were gonna try & was tryin to be helpful until you went all smartass about it. Have fun with your project. Hope it works out.

BTW, your thread title says nothing about trying something "new"...

Ok, you called me on it I thought I did have "new" in the thread title. There's no need to get upset. So fine you think I'm an idiot, and I think your and idiot for posting pics of the OEM lip when I'm trying the type R lip. So I guess that both makes our idiot score = 1 so can't we just call it even and move on? Its clear your on here quite a bit, what with like 5,000 some posts, you probably have a bunch of knowledge and I respect you for that. I'm sorry this got out of hand I never meant to offend anyone.

Not upset, internet doesn't have that much power. Let's just call it a draw then, lol. Nope, no knowledge of accord oem vs. accord type r lip differences til now, I'll admit that. Never been a honda guy. I'm on a Mazda forum tho, wouldn't have ever thought that kind of info would be of any use to me here. type r = slots oem = no slots, got it. Still interested in pics when done and props for being original and customing up some 1 offness.

I got around to installing the Type R today. I think it looks good considering it was only $50 bucks off ebay. I thought it was quite easy to work with the urethane as far as bending it and everything. Let me know your thoughts and opinions, but please keep it civil if you don't like it. Thanks now here's some pics....
