Anyone know where I can find gold emblems (Mazda "M" emblem, Protege emblem, Mazda emblem) for the trunk. If not, I could get replacement chrome ones, but what would be the best way to finish it a chrome gold colour? What would be the best paint or stain out there I could use?
I just bought that Krylon stuff today, I wonder if I can get a touch up style paint of this stuff. Only because I was looking at the emblems and didn't realize that around the "Protege" emblem there is a black trim which I don't want to spray over. The flying M and Mazda shouldn't be a problem.
well if u really wanted to do it with a brush, go to the hardware store and buy a cheap little brush. then just take a old plastic container and make a "puddle" in the container with the rattle can and use that as a your "touch up"
I thought about that, I don't know how the consistency of the paint would turn out after it comes out of the can if it will diffuse or not. But there's only one way to find out, and since it was so cheap I can always get more paint.
So I picked up replacement badges at the dealer (super cheap). The three emblems will be easy to paint. As for the Protege badge i'm thinking of just painting the whole thing (including the black trim) and just going back and hand painting the trim black. Unless anyone wants to share some masking techniques.
if you just mask the whole thing, then VERY carefully cut away the "Protege" the remaining part will cover the background.
doing the background in a matte, and the foreground in glossy this will hide any masking mistakes and may come out with a nice looking product (assuming it fits what you want to do)... just throwin that out there.
Here are some quick shots, the reverse masking didnt work out too well so I painted the whole protege just to see how it looks. The emblems compliment my rim colour, the theme looks much more distinct with these gold emblems.
