going to the track on friday

did the board say 13.9? I thought I saw 13.7 as I was passing, but I was also going over 100, so who knows. the time slip says 13.9 but I thought they were doing something funny with the reaction time or something. anyway, I have a helmet. you'll definitely want to pick one up before wednesday and get a bag of ice to put on the intercooler between runs. it will help a lot I bet.
 
Sleeper have you considered running an No2-cooler? Just wondering if it would be worth it with the aftermarket TM.

the guys that were with me said they saw 13.9, i might be wrong i'll ask them again, any recommendations on a helmet? and yea i might be getting some ice too but where did you get yours and didnt they say no coolers
 
you can buy ice at the track if I'm not mistaken. make sure you take a towel to wrap it in so you don't drip water on the track. they don't like that much. I got my helmet at a motorcycle store I used to work for. any DOT rated helmet is fine, if you're going to buy a used one (I wouldn't want to have someone else's head juice all over my melon) just make sure it has a snell sticker on the inside. I think mine is snell2000 or so and they said it was fine. the new ones aren't expensive at all though. I think mine was $120 regular price.

alluminum doesn't corrode that bad, plus the ice would be wrapped in a towel, so not very much would be getting on the fins. I don't really like my intercooler all that much anyway, if I ruined it, it would just be motivation to get a front mount.
 
ha. i like your way of thinking, its the whole if it aint broke don;t fix it but if it does break UPGRADE!. I would'nt be so much concerned about the intersooler itself so much as the plugs/wiring under the intercooler.

Really? Well we are in FL. I spent the past 5 years in buffalo so any water/salt on any electronics led to major problems. and being a mechanic i know what kind of hell corrosion can bring to your electronics. I gotta get used to being home in fl where rust/corr. is not such an issue.
 
well, I haven't checked them out that close, but it looks like the leads are pretty sheltering to the plugs. I mean you'd have to be pretty dense to design something that you know is going to be exposed to the elements and not consider the possibility of small amounts of water being around it. I've already wiped water spots from the ducting directly over the intercooler. I am sure water is getting in there already. a little condensation from a bad of ice can't be any worse.

I worked as a tech at a chevy dealership, and designers ARE dense. they design cheap and efficient not smart.
 
efficiency means cost efficiency, and in this case, I think doing something small, like putting a lip around the plug holes, to make sure that water doesn't get in there is a lot cheaper than replacing tons of plugs and ignition coils under warranty.
 
True and being mazda they are better built vehicles. I have'nt pulled off my intercooler and actually looked at whats under there was just curious if it could be a concern.
 
not a concern for me at all. maybe it is for some people. anyway everything is so hot under there, the water would evaporate before it caused any problems.

You are playing your cards close to your chest sir. I believe I mentioned the roll out and all you had suggested was that 2nd gear was not a wise idea. But you have already found the answer to 60ft haven't you. I believe that you and I, and the gentlemen who want to pursue speed in this car will have much to discuss come summer. Il ook forward to your advices thanks
