Godbye iPod...Hello Zune

nothing if you don't mind having other people tell you where and when you can listen to your music. oops i mean their music because according to the RIAA you don't own any music just the rights to listen to it. Rights they want to control.
i wasn't aware i had to use DRMd music on my zune. i guess i have to take my non-DRM music off my zune and my gf's ipod.

i didn't edit my registry to support more file formats, i ran a program to do it for me http://www.zuneboards.com/content/view/66/2/

i too hate the click wheel, a major deterrent.

and rumors are that june 1st there will be an announcement that will make it so you're allowed to actually make use of the wifi for downloading songs from wireless hotspots instead of just peer to peer.

I haven't ever had any issues with rights managed content. Everything I have ever tried to play works fine. I don't ever use marketplace or apple music store.

Zune boards is great. I post there too :) I can't wait for the zune phone to come out. 4G will be wicked.

I'm a lot better at modding computers and hacking registry than I am at modding my car (doh) iPod is nice and I'm sure creative makes a great player too, but I like the direction zune is taking with their firmware developement. Guess you have to be a geek to appreciate the thing :(

i understand where your coming from my Ipod is hacked too but they all do the same s***, the wi-fi peer to peer in the zune is horrible, 3 plays and then your done and you can't play it again. My problem with the Zune is Microsoft seems more in line in catering to the RIAA cartel than Apple does (Apple Fariplay DRM Sucks BTW)

which is still 3 more plays than you get from any other mp3 player ;) they def could have done it better and supposedly the "big" announcement on the 1st should relate to it. plus hopefully someone figures out how to make the wifi more useful (instead of the workarounds people have figured out for the 3x3 play thing).

def a good player, i considered that when i was looking i just couldn't justify the price for what i'd use it for

how can i get one for free like you?
MS gives them away to clients and at all kinds of events. they also give them to employees sometimes. i know people who have gotten them through our MS reps at work but we spend millions with MS every year so they better give a few mp3 players :)

The Zune is very cool. But Since I didn't really need all the features the ZNE had, and I avoid apple products like the plague, I got all my MP3 needs filled with the sandisk sansa e250. Best bang for the buck player out there IMHO.

+1

Unfortunately, I'll eventually pick up a nano since my head unit has an ipod input and has a graceful interface for the iPod. So it kind of forces me to go apple if I want to use that interface. Oh, well.

they made a hold button......lol

the zune is nice though. co worker has it. screen and colors are nice.

microsoft step in the right direction.... +1

(iagree) my buddy got a zune, I like my ipod better for now, all the features that other companies have made for the ipod is untouchable for other companies to compete with for a little while. The zune does look nice though, and it seems to work well.

unfortunately i don't work with our MS reps, i had to buy mine. the only thing they ever gave me (and anyone who attended an info session they had) was a t-shirt, a pen and a free copy of office 2007

Just don't use apple store or marketplace. irc has always been a good friend of mine. I mostly get live sets and demos and really don't download cd's at all. You just have to know the right places to dl and you can find anything that will play no problem on any device. You can always capture sound off the sound card to record streaming or protected tracks so I don't how RIAA is an issue at all. (friday)
