GI: OBX header

I called today and they do not have these boxed up just yet. I have never heard of any Dave at OBX. Peter and Tommy are the main sales reps over there and the ones I always deal with on Mazda headers. Lets not jump the shark here, people - patience. That said, go ahead and sign up.

Dave was just the guy I e-mailed at OBX Racing Sports. I got the e-mail from him telling me to contact the guys at Tuning Depot. Dave only sells the headers wholesale so thats why he sent me to those two. They are the ones who sell to the public.

Thanks Ken for running this GB. I hope I helped change your views about header GBs in the future. I would hate for anyone to miss out here and not be able to get this at a later time.

i want to use 2" pipe all the way through but worried might be 2.25"

update as of the weekend - obx did not return my calls on friday so it means i need to jump on them tomorrow and get some data ffrom them. i will keep everyone posted.

i am not taking payments until i know everything from them.

I don't believe they do. Even if they did, I've heard that they eventually fall off due to the heat on stupid little welds.

Why 2"? Most aftermarket exhausts, Axelback or cat-back, are 2.25, 2.5, or 3...

2.25 for a 1.6ltr is an overkill, 2" mandrel is enough. Dont want to lose any low end torque (its bad enough already).

yeah most exhausts are that size (dont know about 3 though) but are they specifically designed for the 1.6? or are they for the 1.8 & 2.0? And just because they sell them at size X" doesnt mean its the most efficient for what setup you have.


but anyway if turns out to be 2.25, i'll get a crush bent system instead of mandrel I guess. Just means I have to sell the 2" high flow cat I've got sitting in the garage

wait so you don't want to lose low-end torque, yet you intend to install a high-flow cat???

I didn't realize you had the 1.6 engine. Good luck in your pursuits; doubt I can help you lol

Of course a little low end torque will be lost with the new cat, I mean to say I dont need to lose anymore by putting in an oversized pipe and slowing down the gas flow so I have to rev hard to get anything out of it.

And of course I have a 1.6, and no, bein smart ass doesnt help anyone..

Well this GB is for all size engines, so excuse me for not double-checking the first post to see what size engine you had. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, just trying to help out. I guess you don't need any help though. Good luck.

Believe me; Im for performance over show. However, Ive seen this header in the past and the placement of the badge was er . fugly IMO. If the badge was on one pipe, relatively flush and snug I wouldnt mind at all. Does anyone have a definitive answer? I plan on having the header ceramic coated at Jet Hot. I suppose a grinder could solve the issue! (thumb)

knowing OBX, i would not hold your breath. i have just now convinced them to accept my credit terms rather than force me to get a cashiers check and do COD for every header i order, lol
