GI for NA header

To expand our product line for the Protege we are throwing the idea around of building headers.

I would like to see what the community would like to see.
Here are your options.

1- Tubular header that keeps the stock first cat.
2-Tubular header that deletes the stock cat and attaches at the mid pipe.

3- Stainless Steel
4- Jethot coated Mild steel.( alittle cheaper than stainless).
5- Non coated Mild steel.

I would like to see a 1 piece header, jethot coated, that deletes the first cat around the $200 range.

It can't be done.Jethot alone is around $175.

A mild steel,Jehot coated long tube header would cost around $300

id like to see the one that keeps the stock precat. there is a nice niche market for such a header that only the wagner shorty fulfills, unlike the full header category which has a few options for people to choose from.

if you can get a better design or better quality for the same price that would be great.

the problem i have sen is the just don't make that much power for what you are spending $300 for 2-3hp, maybe beau can work some magic though

About a year or two ago, there was a ton of money to be made with a product like this. However, now Im not so sure. There is AWR, Autoexe, OBX, Racing Mazda, maybe DC Sports soon.

Not saying you shouldnt, just saying I wouldnt want to see you spend money/effort in an area that is a dead end and would take you away from other projects.

Good luck whatever you decide,

While you're at it MAMotorsports, I'd like to see an individual throttle body set-up for around $300, and a complete stand alone for $250. If you can make some custom rods and pistons for around $3, that would be cool too.

^^ hahaha, good one! :) How about maybe a turbo for $15? Or better yet $10?

Tubular header that keeps stock first cat made in stainless steel.

(rofl)

beau, awesome work. i saw all of the turbo manifolds when i picked up the car yesterday.

yeah I would/do want to delete the first cat (I can appreciate the desire to have another option for keeping the first cat but in a performance sense its just not worth it to me) with a hotjet coated header...

Honestly, I don't think its worth your time. With so many header options out there and different options finding a profitable niche would be difficult. I have problems with my awr, but I not about to buy a new one that would eliminate those problems. Its just too much money for too little HP.

Ya, I don't know why any of you would want to keep the first cat. If you're going to spend $300-400, you might as well get some good gains, instead of just a pretty look. What you guys need is a good 4-1 header, with primaries at least 40" long.

$400 IS NOT A LOT OF MONEY, for a header. Race quality headers will cost you over $1000........

I'm going to be paying $800 CDN for my custom piece, and I'm not even thinking twice about it. It's the difference between 5-8whp and 10-12whp.

"shorty" headers have shown modest gains from about 6-8 whp (wagner at the short end and traveller's tubular at the high end, and are definatly worth it to those of us in california where deleting a cat is a $1500 fine last time i checked.

what i am really trying to say it, i would buy one. ;)

$400-550 is the reasonable price for most brand name stainless steel headers out on the market from hondas to nissans. even some generic no name companies try to sell the stainless for that much so i'm sure beau's pricing should be around that ballpark figure.

you figure that honda/acura/nissan and the like don't have a problem with spending this much money for "that little" power gains so why not? i think we're all too used to seeing bigger gains posted up because there's more likely to be a post about a guy with a t/c'd car putting up his mod list and gains then an N/A guy (even though the latter may have majority of people running N/A). it's N/A with smaller displacement 4 cylinders of course HUGE gains won't be expected but that's the way things go with the N/A crowd. you have to move more decisively then the F/I crowd when modding. btw, how would a tapered design work for the FS-DE? an example below...

twincamtech_1814_4774700

i say if it fits excellent, functions like it's supposed to, gets better power/response, keeps it reliable w/o going to F/I, and is a reasonable price i wouldn't see why not. i would keep it at a low production run of course but other then that i couldn't see why not.

BEAU- i know people have been making the weekly joke about all the products you're making or considering making but i'd say don't get the least bit discouraged. whether they mean it or not who the F*&k else would make or at least step up to the plate to make these kinds of products?? lots of people complain that there aren't any products out there their cars but they may also be the ones hindering businesses like you in making products. kinda weird, huh? LOL

i saw beau's work in progress at his fabrication shop for the turbo manifolds (there was about 8 or so there on the bench), and if the header looks anything like the turbo manifolds (which it will, im sure), you guys who are staying N/A would be wise to go with it.

I pm'ed beau to see if he would make a hi-flow catted N/A downpipe but he did'nt get back to me yet, that will replace the stock POS pre-cat and downpipe that is our biggest problem right there. Then throw on wagners shorty header piece or if beau makes this header there will be better gains right now I have the wanger shorty S.S. header and I'am waiting for someone to make this piece the only other place is wangermotorsports hi-flow cat n/a dp but that thing is priced ridiculously it cost like $350 and that does'nt even include shipping I think if you price this piece at like $100 and $150 then I and I think a lot of others would jump on this in a heart beat since some of us want to stay legal and not have a damn CEL pop-up that will cause our car to run like s*** when the ECU gets all screwy and not to mention that horrilbe raspy sound.
