GI: Cometic Head Gasket for 2.0 FS-DE (turbo etc.)

Authorized Vendor
Hey everyone,

I put a note up in the for sale boards but I guess that was'nt the right spot.

Anyway, we have been running a Mazdaspeed Protege in Grand-Am Cup this season and have had a few issues with the stock head gasket. We would like to work with Cometic to get them to make a head gasket for the Protege 2.0 FS-DE motor. I expect it would work as well for the 626 2.0 and the Ford Probe 2.0 as well but not certain. If any interest I can check.

I'm sure you are aware that Cometic are the ones that produce the great head gasket for the Hondas, Subarus, etc. Unfortunately, to get them to produce a head gasket for the Protege they want us to take the first 50! Hopefully we don't expect to need 50 head gaskets in the next season or so! To get this rolling we are offering to let those who partake and get this going in on the original discount. At this time I only have approximate costs and I'm looking to gauge interest. I expect the gaskets to go for around $90 to $100 once the original 50 deal has gone by. If you partake in the original purchase I expect to be able to get them for and let you guys have them for around $75.

Therefore, let's see the interest....Any questions or comments please post away! Anyone with an idea for a different company to work with please post and say why you think their gasket is better. We're just looking to solve a problem for everybody!!!

Thanks,
Tom

are we talking a copper head gasket or a standard / like stock head gasket?

Cometic would be producing a multilayer steel head gasket similar to OEM, however made to hold under turbo/supercharger boost pressures.

We wanted to stay away from copper due to the inherent problems they have with sealing the water jacket. Copper does a great job sealing the combustion chamber but a poor job with the water jacket.

Thanks for the inquiry!!

multi layer steel... nice... no need to o-ring the block...

then i would most definately be interested...

is it going to be thicker then the oem gasket? possibly thick enough to lower compression a bit?

Yes, it most likely will be a bit thicker. Exact dimension has not been worked out yet.

Please do what you can to spread the word to get us enough interest that we feel confident to go ahead with the project. Unfortunately, there is a two month lead time on this so we want to get it going as soon as possible!!

Thanks,
Tom

if I were you, I would bring this up to a vendor like Mental Addiction Motorsports or Protegegarage, as they might be interested in stocking these.

their isn't much to be desired from a "better" exhaust gasket... what advantages would one have??? none that i can think of... i would go with a stock exhaust gasket.

but a good head gasket... now we are talking...

lets keep this thread going so we can actually have someone make one

I guess we just gotta wait till Beau gets them in! No need for the 50 to get it started. Good job Beau!!!

i am interested....hey...what abouta HEADER gasket...anyone know of a better than STOCK one?
sorry to threadjack, but if you want a good seal on your exhaust manifold gasket use copper gasket spray from autozone

put me down for one when you get it... along with some ARP head studs...

as soon as my first head gasket blows i want to have everything ready to have my car back on the road the same day.

the gasket they are making for you... is it same thickness as stock?

OK, so maybe they already have one in the pipeline!!!

I'd love to talk with you guys if you get a chance....

Thanks,
Tom

Subscribing for info, I'll probably need this someday and as long as I gotta have the head off, best to put in a top notch gasket and I DON'T want a rubber gasket. Count me in the interested.
