The sign says, "This is AMERICA. When ordering, speak English!"

I agree with him 100%.

I heard about this a couple days ago, and I'm currently living on the NJ coastline -- and I work with a fair amount of Mexicans. I asked them what they thought about the whole issue, if they thought it was biased or rude or unfair or whatever -- and the MEXICANS told me they thought the request was perfectly reasonable. One of the guys even said to me, "It's only fair. If you to go into Mexico, guess what, you better be speaking Spanish!"

I remember when my family went to visit countries over in Europe. We had to bring translation dictionaries so we could communicate. And that was just to VISIT. It's always annoyed me that people come into America to LIVE, and don't at least learn enough English to get by. It comes across, to me at least, as incredibly rude and disrespectful.

But that's just my opinion.

Word !! i live 45 min north of philly... glad to hear not everyone is getting worked up about this...

yh i live like 20 mins from philly i heard about this.i think they should keep the sign up.its a business and i wouldnt expect geno's to hold up the line just to try to translate someone that cant speak english.

i work at a retail store and sometimes when it gets busy i'll have people that are spanish or other non english speaking customer and they expect me to find them a translator.no can do.i have no prob with the people at all,but when it comes to running a business, quickness is certainly key at points in time.i agree with others that are saying "if you live in america, learn to speak english!"

hehe, I think its funny. Wouldnt the sign work better if it was written in another language? Other then that I agree with Rush, I'm from Nicaragua and if you where to go to Nicaragua be sure that if you cant speak, spanish whoever you tried talking to will be talking crap and bitching cause you dont know spanish.

Geno's has the best cheesesteaks. better than pat's too. I remember one time me and a few friends went, and one of the girls ordered something wrong, they sent her to the back of the line. it was hilarious.

as far as the sign goes, there's nothing wrong with it. it's basically like saying if you order in italian/spanish/french, we're not gonna understand you. only people who did/will get offended are those who are extremely anal, or those who someone translated the sign for them. simple as that. move on, nothing to see here america

What's even crazier is the fact that many Europeans speak better English than we do.

(Many European countries teach their children English at a pretty young age)

ahhh, i live in Philly

I really dont care about the sign, I go there for my "wiz wit" and call it a day

And just for the record, Geno's > Pats

uh, pretty sure that you just go up to the window and say "cheesesteak" and you get one. i know that i could handle going up to a window and saying "enchilada," "pierogi", or "pizza." If you're in line at Geno's, you know how to ******* say Cheesesteak. lol

i agree with the sign completely i live about 45 min out of philly in jersey and genos does have the best cheese steaks, however pats has better fries

i don't care either way. if someone can't communicate with me i'm not going to shove them away because of a language barrier. i've had my fair share of dealing with mexicans living in california, especially in san diego. for the record, there is no official language in america. i see both sides of the point, but something about the whole idea of "if you're not like me, then **** off," really irks me.

/tree-hugging commie pinko rant.
