General Question about Turbos

I know it's not quicker, but when I want to downshift and punch it while cruising, I like to downshift, then rev it up to get the turbo spooled, then pull out the clutch. In 3rd or less it gives a little wheel chatter and really sets you back into your seat a bit more than if you'd just shift normally. My question is, the turbo is making a lot more noise, sometimes opening the wastegate more than once, is this causing excess stress to the turbo that will decrease its life expectancy?

Hmm... sounds like you double clutching..... seems fine, I wouldn't know why it's making noises... is it the good kinda noise, like a WWHHHIIIRRLLLLLL sound, or a PRPRPRPRPRRRRR sound? I guess as long as it doesn't sound like its going to eat s***, it should be fine?

Either way I'm sure it shoudn't decrease it's life expectancy... maybe someone else may know? If it does crap out on ya, that'd blow..... (no pun intended!) :-) At least you have your warranty, no?

Um, I wouldn't suggest doing that my friend. You will be able to hit the peak of the power range when downshifting. Do no shift like that just downshift normal let the clutch go and punch it. YOu are going to ruin your cv joint and maybe your LSD if you keep doing that.

lol WHIIIRRRRRLLLL, PRRPRPRRRPRPRPR...very funny thx...jsut rpm match when u down shift and ull be ok the turbo spools up RIGHT away because it is small...i dont see why u need to do such high rpm rev to get turbo spool? the trubo spools less at idle because the engine isnt pulling hard because no counter resistance from the car weight...best thing is jsut rpm match and down shift it....

OK given the size of our turbos in the MS3 yes if you rev the engine in the rpm band you'll build a little boost, but is it benficial? I doubt it

What you will wwear out is the clutch , because from the sounds of it your dropping the clutch on a revved engine. Once your rolling the stresses on drivetrain parts is less, but still its your car , its your warranty, drive it how you want to. If it breaks stop doing it. :D

CLOS561.......... FYI turbo's spool when they have a LOAD on them. Load is a shorter version of what you said above. lol Good desription though
