GC reverse cowl hood with Blue kevlar weave (no dialup)

just curious, how much did the hood come out to, TOTAL, with shipping to your place? I just want a rough idea on how much a hood would cost shipped to me.

BTW, Love the hood, and how your car is coming along. (2thumbs)

total? $990 canadian...

$250 alone for shipping.. I think my shipping was a tad bit more... or something..

ordered all the extras, kevlar weave, washer nozzles, vent cover..

bought some washers and stuff from wal mart.. gonna try to getto fit this bastard.

well.. bought more stuff.. gonna try it now. Bout some generic weather stripping.. self-adhesive kind. Will that work?

also got that brass fitting for the coolant bypass..

I still cant get over how close that blue kevlar weave matches the midnight blue paintjob!! Looks great nutari!!! Congrats...and thanks for the pics! (keeps me pumped up for mine!!) (thumb)

looks alot better with my ACE sponsored weatherstripping...

also did the coolant bypass since I had the hood open... (spank)

still paranoid as hell to drive in the rain with these vents though..

anyone done that yet?

do you have an intake of somesort?...you could probably easily make a set of shields to put under the hood that would stop any rain from falling onto the engine...but I honestly wouldn't think it would be that big of a deal...to hydro-lock the engine, you virtually need to submerge the intake filter element before it is saturated enough to cause any problems...

if you have the stock intake still, don't worry about it at all...it has built in water collectors, so even without some stripping on the front, you will be perfectly fine...

ebay cold air.. its in the fender well..

im worried bout cold water/rain hitting the 500 degree header...

plus I thought I saw a thread of someone complaining cause his vented hood caused water to go into the spark plugs...

not sure if it was this hood..

above the driver headlight, i would adjust the rubber stopper so if it lifts the hood higher. ull crack your grill or your hood if it keeps rubbing the underside. trust me, i know. from the front, my hood looks a little high, but id rather have it higher and a little opened than rubbing and break something.

ok.. WARNING

DO NOT BUY THIS HOOD IF IT RAINS ALOT IN YOUR AREA

We just had a typical rainy hawaii night..

WITH The cover on..

water dumped all over my belts.. all the belts are squealing now. :( I pretty much expected it to leak.. just not right over the important stuff...

gonna try it without the cover.. then it SHOULD drop straight down the middle.. in front of the header..

Im trying to think up some kind of rubber flap that attaches to the vent..

pretty much deflecting water foreward.. towards the radiator ..

something like this..

Dont laught at my Paint drawing.. cant get photoshop to work for some reason.

Dunno what material to use though..

video? never saw a video..

yah man, it was on the thread. Focus was gracious enough to host it. that's what the vent cover is for.

and no - this hood isn't the one that puddles water onto your valve cover/spark plugs. :)

i'm surprised water got on your belts. (isn't your vent cover the one with the predrilled drainage hole? if it is you shouldnt' have had any issue with the water.)

I live in a place that gets rain 9 months of the year. when we did the test we basically poured ALOT of water from a hose onto the hood. and it drained very well. If we put tooo much water it would leak a little bit from the edges but minimaly compared to the amount of water that was being put onto the hood. the drainage hole lets the water out and is actually quite important in the v/c's function. so if you don't have a hole drilled, it might be a good idea to find a spot that works for you and make that hole.

There's some truth to your feeling, though. People do have to know, and i mention this in the other thread, that you'll be hard pressed to find a carbon fiber hood that is 100% perfect. Also that with any vented hood, it's common sense that you open up the possibility of getting stuff in. This hood out of all the vented hoods probably allows for the least direct leakage.

Nutari, if there are still fitment issues, pm me and i'll try to work through this with you. I know it's frustrating.

the vent cover didnt have any drainage holes..

the 4 bolts, weather stripping and velcro.. im trying to figure out where the best place to drill the holes... im thinking on the driver side.. it will drain onto the tranny.. which I dont think is as bad as the power steering pump/header..

im not even that mad.. I pretty much expect things not to work now days..

so far, EVERYTHING ... down to my damn pedals havent worked properly..

actually.. this hood, and my ebay cold air has given the the least amount of problems..

the worst I think was the ractive intake (major rubbing on the master cylinder) and my mam midpipe (still vibrating the crossmember with the kartboy hangers, not as much but every so often)

I guess thats the price for having one of the NICEST P5's on the damn island..

*cough*

not that im any match for Kevin though.. damnit kevin and your unlimited resources!!

^_^

really? hmmm we did talk about 21" right? i wonder if they forgot to drill it. regardless.. the test we did had the hole over the rad hose, or next to it. when moving you shouldn't really have that much water draining into the vent, and when stopped it should drain straight down - and avoid hitting the electrical connections. (at least that was the reasoning.. lolz) for the most part it worked. that hole placement prolly wouldn't work on an msp b/c of the turbo placement etc, but there are other places as well. try drilling a drainage hole and then do a water test yourself too. seriously, that drainage will make a big diff in avoiding your problems.

i hope you get the fitment issues solved though. i will say though that i notice that my hood sits a about 1/8 - 1/16" higher than i'd like near the front compared to the front 1/4 panels. I don't know if this is something i can fix with some washers in the back or just some more jiggling.

Well, thats no longer the problem. The vent cover bolts (two of them) broke off. Any ideas what to do now?
