Yes, you are supposed to wash the filter after 20.000 miles. Two bottles with cleaning solutions are included in the box when you buy the CAI. No oil is required/allowed on the filter.

Installation by the dealer requred?

Is the factory warranty valid if you install the CAI yourself or does it HAVE to be installed by a dealer? I have a price of 250 for labor alone from one dealer and thought that the price was outrageous.

I can't really see where they would. It's a mazda factory part. You are removing 4 bolts and a hose clamp to install it. You turn more screws/bolts to change your engine oil yet your waranty isn't affected by you doing that.

It must be more complicated than that. Mazda took 2.5 hours to put mine in. I have seen other posts where it took no less than 1.5 hours for Mazda to install it. Also...there is a electronic cable that plugs in somewhere to it (I didn't trace it...but I assume it goes to the computer.)

Finally, it doesn't void your warranty if you install it yourself --- if you do it right. If you screw it up and cause problems with your car, don't expect Mazda to cover what you messed up. If you are comfortable, knowledgable, and have the equipment to do these types of projects -- go ahead. If you are concerned, I would just order the CAI, read the instructions and then decide if you feel like doing it. Being armed with more information is always a good thing!

1.0 hours of it is probably trying to remove the splash shield behind the fog light

Exactly, pain in the ass. A friend of mine installed it for me. He owns an SRT 4 and has done alot of modding for his car. The install took a lil over 2 hours. Looks fantastic, I'll try to get some pics of it sometime this week.

yea isnt the cable jsut the sensor that was on the stock airbox? i would think u jsut remove the 2 bolts that hold the plug from stock and bolt to cai as long as it faces the right way

Perhaps...I didn't watch them put it in, but it is clear that it gets reconnected to the new CAI. Like I said, I am sure once the parts arrive, the instructions should explain all. After looking at them, a good educated decision can be made on how to proceed. (Do-it-yourself project, or dealer.)

the Mass Air Flow sensor has to be removed and reinstalled into the CAI. (two screws) You also have to move some sort of EFI resistor from the inner fender well to the CAI pipe. There's no real magic to the install but if you don't feel comfortable, by all means, have someone else do it. It's a big step (atleast for me) to defile a virgin car with my dirty and soiled tools.(birthday)

Still any of these available? Or will be more soon?

I just sold off the last of the parts from my SRT-4, waiting for the money order in the mail, and then I definately want one of these.

Exact price with shipping to 23320 would be great as well.

Also, do you definately need to reset the ECU for this, is that in the instructions or is that just something you guys felt was a good idea? Seems to me if you dont' reset the computer would adjust in a short time and you would get the benefit either way. I've seen more cars LOSE power after ECU resets.....

Check with the vendor on the first page.

The ECU reset is a little gray. I didn't reset mine immediately after the install, but I felt the change right away. Some say that it lets your car learn the new ability quicker. If you do it, make sure you press the brakes after disconnecting the batt.

1st or second line in the instructions is "remove negative cable from battery. Doesn't that pretty much reset the ECU?

QUOTE=elderlycoffee]Does anyone have a picture of it installed?[/QUOTE]
does this help.it just top. HPIM0545.webpHPIM0544.webp

Wow, I didn't know it would be down there. I just simply thought it would be on top as usual. Odd, but cool design!

Hello Speed3ers whats up? Hey Swamp Im not sure if that resets the ECU.The head tech at my Mazda dealer showed me how to reset the ECU. But if it did wouldn't the ECU have to learn new parameters and stuff and recognize that the CAI has been installed?
