Gas milage

I have an 02 P5 (could ya guess from my member name?)

I just rolled over 93k miles. I try to do regular maintainance (sp?) on my vehicle, i keep a close watch on my tire pressure. Its due for an oil change, but im not to far over, I run mobil 1, 5w30, fully synthetic and dont skimp on my filters, i use Purlator Pure ONE. I did a transmission fluid flush and filter change at 60k, its due for another.

i normally experience a little worse gas mileage during the winter but my P5 is getting worse than what i think a typical 4 cyl should be getting. im getting like 22 mpg (uhm)

I BABY this car, i make it a point to not go over 3k RPM's, even when accelerating or going up hills.

my drive to and from work is 28 miles one way. its takes me a tank of gas or 7/8ths of a tank of gas to go to and from work all week. Thats not making trips to the corner store, strictly taking the car to and from work. the first 7 miles of my drive is relatively flat, but then it goes into a hilly area for the rest of the trip, i can maintain 50 mph without going over 3k RPM's. The last 2 or 3 miles flattens out.

i ran STP gas treatment through, two tanks in a row, and that seemed to help a little.

What is everyone getting MPG wise?

Gas prices hitting home for anyone else?

thanks,

-Tony

Me too. Around 25mpg. However, I would find it very hard not to go over 3,000 rpm's in a P5, though.

it is hard, i drive like a granny (sad2)

im going to check my air filter, havent done that in a while, but from what im seeing, 22mpg isnt that uncommon. mabee ill take some of the s*** out of my hatch... i got some tools, and spare fluids and such in there.

I think the apostrophe in your name should be before the 02......(evil) j/k

But i have been getting terrible gas mileage too.

lol to the red line. Get a MP3 ECU and you will get better gas milage. I have one for sale. lol

Winter gas, plus the colder denser air make for a hit to the gas mileage. If you are running winter tires it is also probably hurting the gas mileage, they tend to have a higher rolling resistance. Taking out extra weight will probably help, although unless it is a lot of extra weight you probably won't notice all that much of a difference. Make sure you leave some washer fluid in the back, running out in the winter sucks, especially if you are pretty far away from anywhere.

Check your air filter, spark plugs, and dump a can of Seafoam in your tank.

STP FTL.

You know going above 3K is good to burn the carbon buildup. A jolt to 4500 won't hurt.

Have you ever had your injectors purged? If not,you sould. I thought it made a big difference in how my P5 ran and the mileage. Take it somewhere and have it done.

I short shift to keep below 3k. It no funn. I'll be cruising at 25 mph im 5th gear. at least I'm at 1500 rpm. lulz.

That's normal for an automatic driven mostly in the city. It's low for a manual. The auto is apparently much less efficient in city driving than the manual, with the latter giving 25-27 mpg and the former 21-22 mpg. On the highway both transmissions give about the same mpg.

Auto or 5spd?

As winter comes most gas stations switch to winter gas (more ethaonal in the gas) Which kill gas millage hard.

My gas mileage blows...just over 21mpg, but that was city and half of that was with snow tires...but even in the summer, pure city nets me about 23 (if that)....
