Gas gague

Just got the gauge down to one bar today and filled it up not long after. Only 10.6 gallons went in, meaning there were still over 2 gallons left in the tank (13.2 gallon tank)! The warning light goes on at about 3.5 gallons remaining...which is actually almost a quarter tank. I'm wondering if the gauge calibration is off, or maybe it's dynamic (the miles per tank seems to be trending upwards as I drive. But a warning light at a quarter tank? Jeez, talk about paranoid. What's everyone else's experience been?

Yeah I noticed same thing. I filled up when there were few tiny bars left and only around 9.5 gallons or so. Wonder how accurate is the distance to empty gauge.

Got a warning at 2 bars, filled up at 1 bar got a total of 11.2 gallons. My previous car came on at 10 gallons so this doesn't seem too far off.

My warning came in at around 2-3 bars as well. Its got the same size tank as my old Versa so I'm glad I don't spend any more on gas :D

Well, I just drove 60 miles and the thing is still reading as "Full" so I'm thinking this gauge isn't very linear. I'd almost prefer a readout that showed me the number of gallons left in the tank. :)

the gauge is not linear on the mazda 6 either. on a full tank, i can go 100 miles before the gas reading starts dropping. On the CX5, however, it seems to drop linear, i have seen this since my friend has a CX5.

Mine's around 40ish and its still reading full.

My mazda2 was the same deal. Mazda does this to be sure that the fuel pump Is always submerged by fuel. Keeps it cooler and can probably be better long term.

I found this in the service manual that Pengaroo posted. Gallons remaining at each segment.

SegmentGallons Remaining
11.6 - 2.1
22.2 - 2.6
32.7 - 2.9
43.0 - 3.4
53.5 - 3.6
63.7 - 4.2
74.3 - 5.0
85.1 - 5.8
95.9 - 6.8
106.9 - 7.6
117.7 - 8.4
128.5 - 9.2
139.3 - 10.0
1410.1 - 11
1512 - 13

That's definitely non-linear. In fact, it looks like the segment size increases incrementally as you go, from .5 gallons per segment to 2 gallons per segment. Interestingly, the first 6 segments are actually half-segments, and therefore represent 3 gallons, which is about a quarter tank, but segments 7-9, which also compose a quarter, comprise 2.4 gallons. Segments 10-12, the third quarter-tank, represent 2.3 gallons, and the top quarter represents 2.6 gallons. Wacky.

Definitely I'd prefer an XX.X gallons remaining display. I'll probably just pay more attention to the estimated range remaining info.

I've been going by the number of miles until empty for the last few days and I'm really impressed with the fuel economy so far and the fact its so enjoyable to drive!

I'm going to fill up when the miles till empty shows 1 or 2 miles and see how many gallons I put in. This will show how accurate it is hopefully :D

I went till "Range Remain = 0" for at least 10 miles.
I could only put in 10.5 gallons. There was 2.7 gallons remained inside (tank capacity = 13.2 according to Mazda).
I average 36 mpg for 1 tank.
2.5 sGT. Not broken-in yet.

I filled my sGT for the first time today on the way to work.. I had 3-4 bars left but the bars seemed to be vanishing faster then with a full tank.
This guage is kind of odd than what I'm used to..

The range left doesn't seem to be to accurate either. Wirh 3-4 bars it said 70 miles then 3 minutes said 60. I turned off car for night with range saying 59 then this morning the range was 54 when I turned it on. Filled it up and it said 400. 2 minutes later was 394... so don't really trust the range or bars yet.

When I filled up, pump stopped at 10.266 gallons. Roughly 310 miles or so on the first tank...

I think the Miles Left will get better at estimating things as you put more miles on the car and it has more info to make a better estimate.

I hope so... but thinking the range and mpg average MPG are off and not accurate.

I still have all bars in the gas guage and the range is 299 tonight, was 400 when I first fueled up. I haven't done much driving except local in town in past day or so.

I've watched my Miles Left go UP after a fill-up and a long 2 hours highway drive.
