Got a Garmin Nuvi 205W, anyone found a good place to mount it in thier MZ3? It has a hockey-puck thingie to use with the suction mount, but the only place I can think of, over the passenger airbag light/above the ashtray, it would interfere with the manual shifter. Any pics/ideas?

ive been looking for a permanant home for mine for months now and i still cant find anything. i just leave it on my windshield right next to the mirror, but i cant keep it plugged in then because the wire drives me crazy

MN has a law against attaching anything to the interior surface of the windshield. And as I prefer not to present a (larger) target to would-be thieves I have a weighted "donut" base with a suction platform in the middle so I can stash the whole works with nary a trace:

I don't AutoX w/ it (or indeed at all), but it stays put through the tightest of turns in my normally spirited driving, even if I forget to dust the dash first. I usually place it just to the right of the instrument pod, right where the factory GPS screen would pop up, if I had it.

The only problem I've had with it so far is that the grippy bottom surface can leave a temporary "out-gas" ring on the dash if it sits there for more than ~45 mins, but that's been less and less of a problem (i.e. takes longer and longer to leave the ring; started at 15 mins. when new) as time goes on. The ring disappears on its own or can be wiped away with a lightly moistened microfiber cloth.

This is the only pic I could find, but to me the most convenient location is to the left of the cluster in the corner of the window. The wire runs behind the dash into the driver's side kickpanel.

do the 3's have a compartment on the dash like the 6's do?? if so you can do what i did.

take a piece if plexiglass and cut it to fit in the compartment and then just sticking the suction cup to the plexiglass. i use to have a pic of it, but i cant find it now so i will take a new one tomorrow.

no its just a smooth dash...i spent a few hours trying to scope out a good permanent spot for my gps, and came up empty handed

i found a mount on ebay that clips into the air vents. i used to have the suction one, but it melted into my windshield.

im curious as to how you got the wire behind the dash...i couldnt figure out how to get it behind the dash without taking it apart

I tried one of those.. Scratched the hell out of the vent fins. (sadbanana) Some elbow grease and some interior detailer and you can barely tell now, but that's not something I feel like doing regularly, plus it didn't get rid of the scratches completely. It also never really held that solidly.

So I went with the aforementioned "beanbag" mount.

yeah i hate the beanbag mounts...im lookin for a place to mount it that makes it semi permanent and very out of the way

i dont want my gps install to be of the caliber of a hillbilly duct-taping flashlights on the bumper instead of fogs haha

hey mjstew- what head unit do you have? does the steering wheel controls work wiht the head unit you installed? im looking to buy one but the only one i found is that 500 dollar one that has navi and everything... thanks!
