So, we're pretty sure we're going to be getting a Mazda5. This holiday road trip convinced us we need a bigger (not SUV bigger) vehicle. We test drove a 5 while we were up here, and we're sold. So, I need to know what GA's sales tax on cars is, so I know whether to get it while we're up here, or just wait and order what we want when we get back home.

Secondly, if we get the 5, we'll be selling my LX. The P5 will become the autocrosser, so I need some help swapping over the suspension and stereo, and reinstalling the stock parts on the LX. I'll be home Jan. 2, and have no wife/kid to worry about until the 6th. The weekend of Jan. 6, 7 and 8 would also work.

So, who wants to help me out?

I will, of course feed and beer you while you're working on the car. I have a two car garage with plenty of room to work on the cars, but no air tools. I could potentially come to you if you have a better set up.

Thanks, gang. :D

I could be coaxed :D Sales tax is whatever it is in your county (Athens-Clarke correct?), my chart shows 7%, but beware, I'm not sure about currently, but you used to have to pay a penalty when registering for buying out of state, sometimes equal to or more than sales tax. Maybe call county tax/tag office and ask there.

edit: I have air, but only room in the garage for one car (if you help move the boat;) )

if you go to Chollie's, I'll help. I've done suspension before and stereo. Just let me know.

Foolish when u bargain the price just talk only about Tax Tag and Title included prices. That is what i did with my mazdaspeed. Basically add 1300-1500 dollars.

I can hold out. What weekend would work for you? Having done suspension in the air and on the ground, I know how much time/effort it would save to do it at the shop. Do you have free access to the shop, do you work weekends, how's it work at your shop? When I worked at the Ford dealer, things had gotten out of hand with people doing side work/working on thier own stuff, and they'd cut shop access down to one "hobby night" a week.

Let me know. Where's your dealership? I'd need to find someone to drive one of the cars down there for me, since I'd be swapping car to car.

Thanks,

ahh swapping from car to car would be hard and unfortunatly if that were the case it would have to be a tuesday

I can help out most likely, just need to know when everything is going on. keep me in the loop and give me a heads up before hand so i can make myself available on what ever day.

So, we're not going to have to do the part swap between the Proteges after all. We realized that we don't need to spend $19,000 dollars on a new vehicle just to make road trips home 2-3 times a year. We're just going to get a luggage box for my roof rack! It's a pretty simple solution, and while we'd considered it before, we kind of decided against it at some point, and got caught up in the excitement of getting a new vehicle. That's just dumb. A box is a much better use of money.

Anyway, thanks for the offers of help ya'll. I do still want to swap my springs sometime soon. Scott, do you want to come out to my place this week, do yours and mine at the same time?

Hey, I know you may be looking for a Yak coffin or something, but.... we have one of those brown and white plastic "rooftop" luggage carriers that I would imagine could be easily converted to fit your rack, and you can't beat the price... come and get-it! It's dirty, but otherwise should be fine to use. Let me know, in fact, don't let me know, just come get the damn thing, it's sitting on the back patio. :D

Chollie, I don't suppose I could get you to shoot a picture of it and/or give me some approximate dimensions, could I?

Thanks!

Could I? Could I??? Ask and ye shall receive...

Keep in mind it's REAL dirty, maybe could use a paint job, and needs new weather stripping, but it's still pretty decent. Size is about 46"L x 34"Wx 16-18"H.

That's way too much room for Ying!

Chollie, how's that supposed to mount to the car?

we could put 2 or 3 yings in there, more if we cut them up

Oh Hell, if you cut 'em up, I think you could fit an infinite supply in there. It's bigger than I thought.

Eric, it's supposed to use clips to hook over the edge of the roof above the doors, and it just sits on the roof (rubber pads), but I'd figure out a way to use some rack hardware to mount it to your rack. All of the clips are there, but the webbing would need to be replaced.

I could probably just lose the straps and use some U-bolts around the crossbars. I'll show the pics to Dru when she gets back in town, figure out what we want to do then.

Now, where can I get Black Mica paint in a rattle-can? That box is big and ugly, but if it matched the car, that would be stylin', especially with some racing stripes!

(lol)
