Fuzzy headlights. Can they be restored?

I know they sell headlight restoration kits, but do they solve this problem? If not. Will sanding/buffing work?

Depends on the kit, and yes sanding will. Ive seen this question chimed in over and over again. I wish someone had a HOW TO written out with pictures

from what i hear and seen on youtube... toothpaste does wonders

I tried the toothpaste and it didnt do crap on mine, maybe because i just used my hand and a shop rag. once i find the buffer ill use that.

You should be able to get a product off kragen or auto zone.

wet sand them with 1500. buff them with compound. polish them with wax or sealant. use a real buffer. remember they are plastic so let the machine do the work and don't put a lot of pressure on the machine or you will mess them up beyond repair.

if that stuff is on the inside then don't waste your time doing the above and just replace the headlight assembly

toothpaste works but only last for a few days.... or at least that was the results when applied by hand when I did it.

mine are the same way got a kit from advanced the kit goes on a cordless drill did good for about a week this it was noticable again. dosent help with the hids.

Ok whats the best way to protect headlights from this crap?

If the housing seal has been compromised and it's on the inside nothing. Keeping a coat a wax/sealant on them to prevent the outside from oxidizing is the best approach. Trying to resolve the problem w/o sanding is a waste of time.

Have you even tried wet sanding them and then applying a compound? Even if you do not have access to a buffer it will look somewhat better than now if that stuff is on the outer lens.

Looks to me like there is moisture inside the headlight. Some people have told me that if you disconnect all the bulbs/wires/whatever from the back and let it dry out then it will be fine...but I'm pretty confident that is a load of s***. So +1 to what BOOSTR said.

i have used the plastix from meguirs and it works pretty good, but like all polishes it just lasted a few weeks

so im going to try and sand my headlights with 1500 tomm and then buff them with this cleaner compound i got from meguiars, supposed to have really fast cutting, i might try just the compound first and let you know how it goes

I had the same thing that fogginess is from the inside of the cover. I just opened up the light and cleaned the inside with some Nevrdull let it sit for a bit and wiped it off. Good as new

So how did you get to the inside the light

put the headlight in the oven for about 10 minutes at 500 degrees. take it out and slowly pull up on the tabs that hold the clear part of the headlight to the whole assembly. then just pull it off slowly. wash it with soap and water then I used the nevrdull let it sit for about 20-30 minutes till it gets completely foggy, then wipe it off with a dry cloth. then put headlight back together.

yeah thats pretty sweet. i have some fuzz, i think its on the inside. wish i knew about the oven thing before i went and bought a housing off someone else
