I have a 2003 MP5. I get betwn 27 to 29 mpg in town. I just went on a trip to Augusta, Ga. I still got 27 to 29 mpg. the speed was 73mph at 3200 rpm. I expected to do about 32mpg Is this normal or do I need to check something out.. I have replaced the sparkpluge with NGK and the air filter. both were replaced sometime in the past two months. I hope someone can help me.

Help you what???? Get better gas mileage????

I run consistenly 22mpg with 90% in town driving....Consistent as in for the last 15,000 miles or so....I normally drive pretty "spirited"...so I don't complain...and have the MP3 ECU...which did not change my average...So I don't know what your asking for....New I think the dealer tag said 22 city and like 26-27 highway...

well at my shop we do a fuel injection cleaning which is simalar to sea foam. it goes in the intake thru the brake booster vac line and it helps clean off carbon build up on the valves. i do this every 10-15k miles and i recently averaged 34.3 miles on the highway with the hatched loaded. so i guess it works.

I keep pretty good records commuting in my 2002 P5, and in a mix of highways and parkways, I get about 26-28. I took a long trip to Indianapolis from DC and maybe broke 31 once. Usually right around 30 on long trips. The engine just spins so fast...

Check for the usual 1st, tire pressure is huge, I check mine weekly, dragging brakes can also sapp gas. Also it depends on your driving style. I use my cruise alot on the highway. Doing 75, I usually get 31-33mpg.

I checked the tire preassure last weekend. I left on the trip on Thursday. I did forget to add that while in Augusta I got 18.8 mpg. On trip to Augusta I had the cruise on 90% of time. On the way home I hit more traffic jams.

slow it down to about 65 and you'll get better mpg. I did it in alaska driving from Fairbanks to Anchorage, and got between 34 and 35 mpg.

Some of the things I also noticed:

The less humid the air, the better the mpg. Over the last month in San Antonio I averaged around 24-26 city. Here in El Paso I'm right around 30.

The cooler the intake air is, the better the mpg I get. For example, driving in Alaska from Fbks to Anch in March netted the above mentioned 34-35 mpg. Doing it again in July only got me 32 at best. I did it at 65 mph both times, with my wife and 6year old son, and the hatch full of luggage.

Thats what I average with roughly 40/60 and that mostly beign city. I think I averaged 27 once. However I genreally stay right aroudn 24.5-25.7mpg. Thats witha regular auto also which make a big different when your comparing gas milage. The standards get better milage.

I just ran 220 miles, starting with a full(not topped off) tank and am currently sitting just above half tank...so whats that? About 36mpg:) And yes, I grannied it lol.
