Fuel gauge

Anyone Else notice that the 3/4 and 1/4 tank marks appear to not be in the correct place on the fuel gauge? I wonder why Mazda did this?

The other day we were driving back from our cottage and didn't notice we were almost out of gas. Guage was just starting to pass the empty marker when we noticed and refuelled putting in 53 litres. I believe the tank is 60 L so there were 7 L still in there. That's good to know.

I agree that it looks that way but they are truley where they belong. I get almost exactly 100 miles out of each 1/4 tank. When the tank is full, the needle is above the line, and when empty it is well below the E mark.

There's no way they are centered. The only way that would be is if the side of the line and not the center of it is centered in the spot. I always wondered the same thing, why they'd not make 4 perfectly spaced marks.

I'm waiting to get through a few tanks before I start measuring, but my last 1/4 tank was about 85miles. I'm still breaking my 5 in, I only have 500 km's on it so far

Sitting on E with the fuel light on there is still 3 gallons in my 5 left (calculating the tank at 15.7 gallons and then filling it up).

Man, I'm lucky if I get 70 per 1/4, of course, I like to Zoom-Zoom.

The guage is not linear. It's trickery I tell you! Trickery!!!!

For me it drops to 3/4 tank, then it will hang out around half a tank for a while but as soon as the needle gets to 1/4 tank it drops like a rock.

You are proably right. I must have gotten lucky 'cause mine is dead linear. Maybe you should have it checked by the dealer under warranty?

All fuel gauges are notorious for being a rough estimate rather than being smack on exactly how much fuel you have left. My Sunfire stays above F for 40 miles, then will hit 3/4 by 75-100. It's linear between 3/4 to 1/4, then it'll plummet down towards E.

tru, fuel guages are really volt meters, but this one is the first I've seen where even the marking don't look right!
