fuel cut question

:
MS3
Im new to turbo's so please dont flame... Ive been hearing alot about fuel cut off with the ms3... I was wondering what type of mods people are running to have this happen.. Cause all I have left to do besides ecu is a dp and I really dont want to spend extra money on a fuel pump.. but Im sure a dp doesnt do this... I ask this cause yesterday after installing my race pipe I notice (only once) at 5k rpm there was some sort of cut off ... I gotta to check and see if the RP is leaking cause i had issues with the install...any info would nice ,thanks

I don't think it's the mods per say. I use to have a little sputter in the 5500RPM range myself but new plugs took care of that. I have FMIC/TBE/Cobb AP myself and I don't have any sputter/fuel cut/Boost Cut at all.

I have a 2007 MS3 and I have had the TSB for the upgraded fuel pump from Mazda done. Maybe that's why I never get fuel cut, dunno. It seems random as some people get it and some don't.

i get it horribly. it gets worse as you add mods...hence why i get it so bad ! if there was a cure for it i would have it. there isnt one. i'm still waiting.

I would bet anything that if you got the Cobb AP running the 103 Maps all your cut would be gone. You have a reworked Turbo on me and a Mani. I have ZERO hesitation/sputter with a Mazda FP running the AP with 103 Maps. Prior to the 103 Maps I had a tiny bit of hesatation/sputter running stock boost at about 5500. It had nothing to do with fuel as my fuel pressure was 1500+ at all times with no dips.

Now spiking to 20PSI dropping to 19PSI and 17.8PSI at shift, I have no hesitation/Sputter at all. With my MBC/Map Clamp I had to set my Clamp at 10PSI before it would not sputter and then when I got the FMIC the sputter came back. Drop the Map Clamp/MBC and get the Cobb AP and I bet your sputter would be gone. If you have the cash it's worth trying out and if you get sputter/fuel cut still, then just return it. But I bet you will not.

i have spoken to chritian at cobb who has told me they have issues with the cut and have not figured it out. i refuse to spend that kind of money on that thing.

By all means don't waste money on a possible fix that you can return if it doesn't fix the issue. Why would you do that when you just can just suffer with the cut and b**** about it?

Sounds stupid doesn't it? You can return the AP if it does not fix the issue and get your money back. Or if it does fix the issue, then you solved your problem and can now drive your car without cut.

Look at the guy in the ECU thread. He had cut, tried the AP and it didn't fix it, then was told the RIGHT Map to use and now his problem is fixed. I doubt he considers the AP a waste now.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do man. I'm honestly trying to help you.

right ...once he used the detuned map. i send PM's back and forth regularly with cp-e and cobb. both have told me directly that they have no idea what causes it. once you hit a certain power level or temp it just happens. so i should buy a flash to "tone down" my current set-up to avoid the cut ?? that is basically how cobb/cpe "fixes" the issue. slower spool up.... smaller boost spikes.... less timing......more fuel, the right combination of those makes it stop. it also loses about 30whp. after seeing cobb only make 280WHP on a fully bolted MS6 with a GT2871 turbo i know 100% that they are clueless with tuning this car. my car puts down over 300whp with a WAAYYYY smaller turbo. i will in fact wait it out and continue to b**** until a real solution becomes available. for now the cheap and just as power robbing solution is for me to simply turn the boost down a few clicks.

Ok man, whatever you say. He used the right map as he was not using the FMIC map and just the MSCAI Map. Once he used the right map it worked.

I will simply say this. I have over 300WHP, no upgraded turbo, running 91Oct fuel all on the STOCK Mazda FP and I have no stutter or cut anymore. My car has never been faster or pulled this hard sense I got the Cobb AP. My boost spikes 20PSI in 4th dropping to 17.8ish at redline. My AFR's are 12's and my trims are 3.9 LTFT and 0.0 STFT.

I'm not positive, but I would NOT call my car De-Tuned. Sorry.

just going off of other users posts. especially those with HEAVY mods.
take laloosh for example. over on MSF forums he has dyno proof. his car had similar TQ but the peak HP numbers were like 30HP lower with the AP compared to his self made standback program. his car also got its ass kicked by darksuns car twice with the AP tune. with the SB on it was a pretty even race. i will run a MBC and MAP clamp until the cows come home. all i need is a fix for this cut.

ROFL - Well by all means go off of what Laloosh says. Lord knows he's not Biased in any way shape or form /sarcasm off. I have Dyno proof of my car putting down 286WHP before my TBE and putting down more power than a NON-AP car with full bolt-ons running 18PSI with an MBC/BCD. Big deal.

His so called tests are a total joke man, but if you want to be fooled by him be my guest.

I see no harm with getting the AP and if it does NOT solve your issue, simply send it back. What do you have to lose at this point (other than your cut). I mean if you're goal is to fix your sputter then it's worth a shot is it not?

Or get the SB, hack up your ECU or pay $300 more for the PNP Harness, then tune it to fix your issue. Both will do the job for sure.

at this point i would take the SB if i had to choose. at least it can be tuned, and i dont have to suffer with some off the shelf overly conservative tune. LALOOSH is 1 of very few peoples whos opinions i take seriously. he HATED
cp-e badly after a bad experience with them. but he is still man enough to tell us when their products work well. he doesnt bash everything they sell just cuz they screwd him in the past. he has dyno proof as well. his very basic SB tune makes lots more HP than a supposed BIG POWER beta tune he was trying for cobb. but just for s**** and giggle i just may give it a try....just for you. i actually have a dyno session set up next with for my TRZ intercooler. i will call PG and ask them to bring an AP along for the ride. i can try it right then and there. I'll even bring my lap top so i can try various maps.
