FTC Update....

was it stock or modded? did the car have cats? for stock that looks nice, but with exhaust thats not too far off from normal MSP numbers isnt it? always nice to see vendors release well made products, if it takes a few weeks more to release the product right, then wait the few weeks.

ok, so aside from timing what does it do differently than the afc?

nothing I don't think
I have talked with him about it, and I never heard anything about extra injectors or anything.... but I could be wrong.

Ok I've been getting a ton of emails from you guys lately on whats going on with the FTC. So heres the update. We do indeed have a running and fully functional FTC, big thanx to 10lbsMocc who graciously trusted us with his car. Here's the catch which has delayed us for the past few months with consumer production. Anytime you mess with engine management you take on a huge liability. Well one of our main stakeholders happens to own a very large law firm and has expressed his concern with liability on the timing end of things. We've been going back and forth between legal disclaimers and production to try and find a happy median as well as making the product as safe as possible for even the beginner user. Currently the best solution we have come up with thus far is to limit timing control to retard only. This doesn't seem to be a problem b/c in all the tuning sessions we've done the safest and most perfomance producing dyno runs have always involved pulling timing at the higher rpms. However, we do realize that some of you guys running bigger turbos and built motors need to be able to advance timing at the lower end to help with turbo lag. So towards the end of this week myself, a few of the lead techs and our legal team are all going to lock ourselves in a room untill we figure out what to do. Choices will be release a timing retard model only, make a iron clad disclaimer and release a full timing control model, or release 2 models one for advance users and one for stock users. As far as dyno charts, i haven't had time to upload them, but I believe we were sitting at 197hp/198tq with an a/f of 11.09 @10psi (These are actual WHP #s and not crank #s as some others like to use)...obviously this is just talk untill i upload the dynos to support this. So wrapping it up I wouldn't mind having some input from the community this product is for, but please limit it to the FTC only. Mods if you wouldn't mind I'd like to keep a close eye on this thread to keep it on subject....OH as I'm sure all of you want to know pricing is looking to be between $425-515

John,

What about selling the unit with the retard function only, but offering a flash upgrade for advanced timing which advanced users can d/l at will from your site. That way the unit that you sell will be safe for mass consumption and it will make your legal eagles happy. Advanced tuners can d/l the flash upgrade for the unit from your site only after electronically signing a disclaimer that acknowledges that damages that may occur from advanced timing are the sole responsibility of the person who is modifying their unit. This too will make the legal eagles happy as you will have a binding agreement that forces the unit owner to take responsibility for modification of the units capabilities. If anyone tried to come back at you saying that advanced timing killed their baby, you would have a documentation to prove that they knowingly downloaded and installed a modification that had the capacity to harm their engine. Just my $0.02, but it seems to fit the bill on all fronts.

PS What are upgrade options for people who already have the AFC?

Quick question, what is the difference between the AFC and the FTC? One controls air to fuel ratio and the other fuel to timing ratio? I guess I just don't understand the fuel part for the FTC. Please explain.

in addition to controlling air/fuel like the AFC, the FTC will control timing

hehe, yeah, there isn't a fuel to timing ratio. It's two separate functions air/fuel ratio and spark timing, in one product.

So I take it you never locked yourself in the room with the techs and legal team 2 weeks ago?

Any news? Did the dyno charts get uploaded?

Also, I liked the idea of selling it as a timing retard only with the option to download a flash for it.

So say you get the AFC, and the FTC, the total cost being ~$700, what would be the advantage to going this route, and not with something like the MPI Tuner or Unichip?

Thanks, that clear up the confusion on my part. Damn, that means I need to save up another $150 to get this instead of the AFC.

umm i think you should just stick to the afc until you learn more about timing and cars in general.

I think he should spend the money how he chooses. Why buy the base afc when you can shell out a little extra cash for the total package. You're point is probably valid, but we've all got to start somewhere. So when he figures out what timing is and learns his car more he can be pissed that he bought the wrong unit for his needs.

John,

Have you decided what you are going to do for people who currently have the AFC, but now plan to purchase the FTC? Will you offer an upgrade path/plan or a discount on the FTC unit?

And don't assume that since I only have a few posts on this forum that I don't know anything about cars. I've been around the block with my turbo Lancer for about 2 or 3 years now.
