front window ticket

ok, so I'm dropping off my stupid brother who woke up late for school and this cop is flagging me to pull over. I thought to myself, was it my hks exhaust, tailing to close, or just speeding again. I roll down my front two windows and he tells me my tint is too dark. Gave me a fix it ticket.

So, how much is the fee besides showing them that I got the front tint removed? Or do I just go to court and show them it's removed and there's no fee? I'm so broke right now this sucks. Happy early birthday to me.

A fix it ticket wont cost you anything as long as you either remove the tint or put a lighter tint on. I would have a cop test to see if your tint is really to dark before you remove it though. They have some kind of devise that checks your tint. Anyway you just have to go to the police station after you fixed the problem and show someone in the office that you fixed it and they will wave the ticket. If you don't fix it in a cetain amount of time then they will give you a fine. I have had a few fix it ticket in my day. One for not having a front liscense plate(cause I hate the look of a front plat), and one for not having my proof of insurance with me.

Ok, here's what happened to me about 1 month ago in So Cal on the 10FWY

Got a front tint ticket.

Now, I got my tint removed ($15.00), LAPD check-off ($15.00). Supposely if I pay $10.00 more to the court, my ticket is done. However, the stupid cop couldn't read and on the box that ask correctable yes/nO, he checked "no", and I got the citation ticket for $161.00. Basically I can take a day off to go to court and I will get the 161.00 waived, but then I would have to miss a day of work, and basically I would lose one day's pay, so I am screwed.

I can also sue the stupid cop for lost wages, but then I would have to go to court twice and just not worth my time.

If that is really what happened call the clerk and break some balls until you get some results. Call the station and clear it up. Cops suck when it's for stupid crap like this. Go do something productive!

My aunt work in the city (head secreatary of traffic department) and she told me that unless I go to court there is nothing the clerks can do.

Hmm. I had some luck dealing with a clerk once, but it was a podunk central texas town.

yeah, I don't know the laws in CA, and they can be different everywhere... but here in NC, clerks don't have any "power"... only the judge and the DA.
See if oyu can get an apt with the DA; here, he can "make a deal" with you etc.

For me, a meeting with Rocky Delgadillo will just bore me to death and It's definitely not worth the 160 I already paid. As for P5mojo, I would look at my ticket and see if it's a correctable or not. If it is, you have nothing to worry about. If it's ok, then get it corrected and go to court if you have time (or just pay for the damn thing)

Was the front window completely tinted or is it the strip at the top? A friend of mine got a repair order because the Chevrolet window decal that the dealer put on before he bought the car was in violation. The lower tip of the "H" was a quarter inch too low.

Edit: You were talking about the driver and passenger window, my mistake.

I had my front windows tinted a while back and got pulled over also. What I did, and what I would recommend, is to get the front window tint removed (cost me $20 if I remember correctly) and take your car to the nearest CHP station. They'll inspect your car and if the problem is resolved they give it their "stamp of approval." You won't have to pay the ticket price, but you'll still have to pay some sort of processing fee which is like $15 or so. Hope this helps! :)

yeah i have 20% all around with a sun strip, im wondering if i have to take that off too. The guy at the tint shop placed it 4" from the top, legal limit he says.

so did you check your ticket and see if your ticket is correctable? That would determine your next step.

My advise would be to rip off the tint yourself and clean up the adheasive with a razorblade and some window cleaner, go pay the processing fee at the c.h.p., then go get it re-tinted. I've been saved from speeding tickets a couple times because of tint on the windows. Trust me, a fix-it ticket is cheaper than a speeding ticket.

yah, great....i got the same s***..sneaky ass cops, i got until december to remove the passenger and driver window tint....jokes on me since i bought the car in vegas...

In California I was told by the CHP that front tinted windows are illegal. I got a fix-a-ticket not too long ago. I took off the tint myself, which wasn't too hard. Then I drove to the nearest CHP office and had an officer sign off the fix-a-ticket. The funny thing was the officer didn't even inspect my car, he just signed it and said I can go. Anyway, I only had to pay the fee of $15.

No longer a fix it ticket

Illegal tint citations are no longer a fix-it ticket in CA. A former co-worker got poped last year and had to pay a fine.

Whoa, do you know how much was the fine?

mine is correctable, is there a site for CHP locations? Do I go up to a cop and say "look I took it off now sign it?" LOL I thought I was supposed to go to the courthouse and show it there..

Don't remember the exact amount but it was over $100. He tried to have it signed off but they told him they don't sign off on illegal tints anymore. I have spoken to two others who also had to pay a fine.

I don't know why P5MoJo's ticket is a fix it ticket but it shouldn't be. It's possible the CHP dosn't know the change.
