Front mount air duct for SMIC

I might, right now with the CF hood on I have no use for my windshield wiper fluid/system and all that, the line is just sitting in the engine bay so I might just use that, but what exactly do you spray the IC with? and does it affect anything or kinda get anything behind the IC covered with it, I will look at the DIY now and see what it says, still wanna look into the air cooling but that is more just to keep my busy, might give this a try also

I'd say if you were going to split it between your windshield and your IC then use washer fluid, but in your case you could use water, ice water, washer fluid, whatever really. If you have no washer now then you'd barely have to buy anything. Tubing and nozzles, you're looking at < $5. It essentioally would have the same effect as rain getting through your IC and onto anything behind it. Most would evaporate off quickly.

hm, ya just finished reading it, I think I will do that no matter if I get the "ram air SMIC" thing working or not, because it's better than spraying wiper fluid to the bottom of my engine bay if I forget that I don't have it hooked up lol, wiper fluid shouldn't do anything/leave any residue right for what I spray it on, I was also thinking some rubbing alcohol mixed with water or something like that, but might not be good for it to land on anything too hot.. i dono how dangerous rubbing alcohol is when it is put onto something hot, i would assume it wouldn't be a problem right? would definitely cool better than water alone.

is your new msp an '03 or '03.5? if it's an 03.5, why don't you run some tubing from behind the driver's foglight grill thing up to the SMIC? that may help get more air as well...

just a thought.

ya I was thinking about that, but its an 03. both of them are spicys (or were in the case of my first one lol) my brother just got titanium msp, but he already has a FMIC and a lot of other stuff that came with the blown motor lol.. but that is the general idea I am going for, just in a different area, and most likely like an air duct fitment piece that will go right under the SMIC and use air from under the car area.. best bet so far that I can think of.. not sure if the material for that will rattle or not though, need like stiff plastic or metal I think
-but thanks for the input, since this thread was dead before I just want to use it to brain storm ideas and places/fitment ect.. for now before I get into it when I am done with school

ya ya i know, I just spent so much money on my kit that I could have gotten one of the best FMICs and still had money left over!, but they were my first mods so I am stuck with them, I'm still set on trying to at least attempt to work this out, but good chance after this summer, or before then if the SMIC overheats at all, or more than once.. than it's gone haha, just gotta start making money again before I can even consider getting the FMIC because I will most likely keep the SMIC/hardpipe setup encase I want to go back, at least for a while.. i horde like that

ok so I just wanted to say that I actually did it finally, First Ever I believe... it isn't much, and it wasn't as much as I was thinking in the first place, but it works actually pretty well, considering that I took it off my brother's old Mercedes air vent

I have some pics, I forgot to take pics before I put the pieces back on, but you get the idea.. and I still plan to do the DIY IC sprayer, once I can find some spray nozzle home depot and Loews both don't carry irrigation stuff anymore which sucks.. so I gotta find them online, you can see the vent behind the IC sprayer hose (windshield washer tube)

Instead of fabbing a ram air for the SMIC just buy a FMIC. Way easier, plus better for the car.

i like the smic i got this idea to get a high flow 3" radiator for civic wich is shorter in length the our stocker then getting a rx7 smic which is larger then even the upgraded smic and trying to run that but everything cost dinero

ya I know, but as I stated before I had already spent $1k+ on the hardpipes and SMIC by the time I finished with the welding and fixing the bad weld this guy did locally the first time (had to send it away to WR to get it re-welded/new end pipe inserted and bent) and the WR pipes and than T bolts and silicone couplers.. I plan on getting a FMIC anyways eventually when I get forged internals and all that, but for now I wanted to give this a shot, if anything it's better than just leaving it the way it was.

that looks good hopefully it doesnt rattle to much

ya me to, I tightened the screws in there pretty good (self tapping screws, one went in a little crooked but is still tight) and I placed that metal bracket there to support the plastic, and the plastic is semi thick already, so should be good, I will check it once I do some highway driving to see if it loosens up, but I think it should be good

ya everything is just more money, if I didn't need to buy a winter beater this summer I would just plan on buying a FMIC and keep my SMIC/pipe kit around and save up for forged internals by the end of the summer, but.. I need a car I can drive in the winter.. refuse to drive the msp, it has never seen snow so I wanna keep it that way

i was thinking of doing something like this..

intercooler_fans_2.jpg

intercooler_fans_1.jpg

if anyone here knows anything about computers you will know A: these fans are 12 volt and B: you can get some that reeeeaallllly crank out some wicked air.

these dual fans will pump out enough air to cool the intercooler without a doubt.

if I do it I will post up a DIY

edit:

hahaha check out this bad boy -> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1701168&csid=_21

well the fans im looking at are around 89CFM each.. so two is close to 200CFM but yes i will definitely do a write up soon

how are they resistant to water?.. or could they not get wet at all, like in rain?

I could still use one of those probably on the top section of the SMIC, and just keep the normal air ram thing in the bottom half.. would be sweet, I also installed my DIY IC sprayer yesterday, just have to adjust it today

I have seen a write up on this before, the guy used a sheet of plexiglass that routed the air over the side mount unit he had pictures and everthing !!!!
said it def helped him on getting help on the heat soak !!!!!!

i thought of that yesterday. the wires are shielded and the bearings are sealed inside the fan head itself so i don't see water posing a big problem IMO.

does anyone have the core dimensions of the stock intercooler, not including the tanks? so i dont have to take mine out.
