front lower control arm bushings

While doing my clutch install, I decided to install AWR front and rear engine mounts to replace the sad stock mounts. In the process, I noticed that the front lower control arm bushings that are on closest to the firewall are shot. Both sides have large tears in them. Is this a common problem? The car only has 70k street miles on it with stock suspension. I'm VERY surprised at the sad shape of the bushings. I've looked, but I haven't found an aftermarket solution. Does anyone know if these bushings are available from the dealer (it's Sunday, so everyone is closed)?

Your best bet is to ask Captain KRM P5 of Protege Garage - he's basically the bible for what is/isn't available for our cars, and can usually get most of the stuff that is at really good prices. Shoot him a pm or an email.

Thanks. I looked in my service manual, and there is a procedure for replacement of the lower control arm bushings, so I'd assume you can buy replacement bushings without having to buy an entire control arm. I'll find out tomorrow.

Has anyone had these bushings tear or fail? I just can't believe the condition they were in given the car's age.
