Front brake replacement issue

Hey guys I just finished replacing the front pads and rotors and ran into an issue on the driver side. After compressing the calliper piston all the way I had a hard time getting the calliper to slip back over the pads and rotor. I ended up tapping it gently with a hammer until it seated in the correct position. I put everything back together hoping that it would be fine but after taking it for a test it seems that the pads are rubbing on the rotor which is causing a burning smell. Any advice or ideas on what might be the problem? Thanks for any help

Brakes

You need to take the wheel and caliper back off and attempt to get the piston pushed back into the caliper. If not it will always have pressure in it so it will just rub the sh*t out of your pads and rotors. Then after you get that done, maybe bleed the brakes if need be but if you've never done that then swing it by a shop. Months expensive

Clean up the bracket pins that the brakes slide on, and no matter what you will smell the brake smell for a few days with the new brakes

Your brake caliper piston might be rusted. Then it will jamb instead of moving freely.

My brakes did the same thing. If you have to force the piston in then it's seized in there. I had to replace my caliper.

This is what my piston looked like:

After taking it apart again it seems like the top guide pin, the one that can't be removed, is stiff. The piston is compressing fine but even without the pads in place the guide pin doesn't want to allow the calliper to slide into place. Does anyone know if it can be removed and greased somehow without having to buy a new calliper? Thanks a lot

It's removable. Pivot the caliper up as far as it goes and then slide it back off the guide pin. In the end of the guide pin is the socket for an allen wrench. I don't remember the size but it's pretty hefty - I have a half-inch-drive socket specifically for it. Might need a breaker to get it loose but it comes right out of the caliper bracket. I think you can get a replacement at a parts place.

You can remove the caliper and lightly sand/clean the pins and re-grease them to see if that helps before buying new calipers.
