From MP3T to 2004 Evo

I fianlly was able to hook up the SAFC and tune it this weekend! The car feels much less boggy at all RPM's. We could go a tad bit leaner and gain a little more power- right now it's a fairly safe tune for the awesome 91 octane we get here.

A guy who autocrosses here has a titanium grey Evo MR... so hot! Keep us updated :D

have you taken it to the strip yet?
i just put in my boost gauge and i know what you mean about stock boost being unsteady, i get spikes to 22psi, then down to 19, then sometimes at part throttle i even get down to 17psi before going back to 19 and heading to 16 by red line. crazy :) after winter the MBC and Dynoflash will go in and it'll be way more fun, then maybe exhaust around tax return time. for now, time to buy some winter tires and have fun sliding around in the snow :)

hehe ya the boost taper sucks. 3 different things cause this on the evo: Stock wastegate, stock BOV/vac lines, and ECU.

Once I replaced the stock plastic DV with the MR DV AND add a Halman pro RX MBC- I was able to regulate the boost taper by about 2psi. Now I NEVER spike in boost and it tapers from 19-17 or 19-16.

What you really need to do in order to kill the mechanical end of the taper is get the new FORGE wastegate actuator. The stock wastegate is weaksauce and leaks over like 17psi. I've heard of people using this product and eliminating the boost taper all together.

Some people say that the stock ecu caused the boost to taper as well- but I have yet to see facts on that.

hehe only one real trip to the strip so far. I ran a 14.0 with a boost leak on a near stock setup. I think I had an intake filter in but that's it and a very poor 60ft time on pump gas. lol

I'll take it again this winter maybe.

Do you have any sound clips of the exhaust?

Nice ride, I might be looking at an 04 RS in the very near future. Is the ECU+ any good? The guy is selling it with the car but not installed.

No sound clips yet, but I think I'll make a short low res vid clip of it reving. Sounds really good. I'll try to make and post that tonight.

I've heard VERY little on the ECU+ hardware. It's not a very big hit for the evo. Kinda like the e-manage. I'll look into it and let ya know!

Cool, thanks! Yeah I hadn't even heard of ECU+ until the guy told me he had it but not installed. I might just sell it and spend the money on an exhaust. Do you know if the buschur exhaust sounds good? I love the weightsavings with it.

5x114.3 w/ crazy offset to fit over the brakes

Do you know what offset? I've got a set of 16x7 +40 and 16x7 +45 slipstreams for the protege, I'm wondering if I can use one of em for winter tires.

Evos are the win!

I was wondering if my 5zigens would fit, but I doubt they will. 17x7 48mm offset w/215 40/17 tires. I keep thinking about gettng an 8...

stock wheels are 17x8 with a 235/45 tire in +38mm offset. there's only 1 known set of 16s that fit and they're a rally wheel that a shop in the UK makes and it's not cheap. a 16" wheel will clear the brakes but usually the spoke pattern makes them hit the caliper, the stock wheel barely clears the caliper

Sounds great!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be getting this RS. Sorry to keep asking questions, but do you know if there are any major differences that would make it worth getting an 05RS? ACD doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Thanks!! :) It's definately worth getting an 05- but not because of the ACD... Because of the 10.5 hotside on the turbo. The 05's put out a little more power becuase of the bigger hotside. But then again, if you're looking at paying A LOT more for an 05' than a slightly used 04' I'd say to re-consider. You can always upgrade to a 10.5 hotside or skip it and get a 20G from Buschur for under 1K.
