so what are u driving while this car is getting ***** anally?
lol. i have a 1993 ford taurus.it's a great car. bought it for 500.00..runs great. great gas mileage, 56k miles...absolutely amazing.

Looks good if i remember correctly you and i spoke outside of the townmall in westminster a long while ago.

Not calling you out, but this is incorrect... The FS-DE is an INTERFERENCE Engine. Timing belt slips or breaks, and it's bye-bye pistons and valves, if not the whole motor. That's why I've been keeping my fingers crossed with mine, cuz' I'm 30k miles over the recommended timing belt life. Do a search and you can verify that our engines are indeed interfernece engines.
non-interference

bowers..i remember the name... probably have. i like to talk w/ people about their cars. thanks though.

well, half the people say it is the other half say it isn't. as for me I thought it was non because of evidence and whatnot on certain boom boom threads. although I did read somewhere of specs that it is interference. I would still like to know for CERTAIN also, not just someone saying it is or isn't.

Here's one source.... http://www.gates.com/downloads/download_common.cfm?file=TBR05.pdf&folder=brochure
Go down and check the listing for our cars... there's an asterik, noting our cars as having interfernce engines. Still don't believe me, call your service tech and ask them.
BTW, I wouldn't waste my time passing around false info. I've done enough work on this engine to know certain things. I can't say I know it all, but I know that this is good info, the FS-DE engine is an interference engine. I've done my homework... don't trust me, do your own research.

I dont pass around false info on purpose. it is something like I said is 50:50 on this board. even by some pretty knowledgeable people. granted I haven't checked/read anything in a while about it though.

guys, calm down. heh. i BELIEVE, due to my circumstance, that it's an interferance engine. aand coolhand seems to go with it, provided a good source for it. so, vindication, maybe now you'll have your answer.

the car is a long struggle, but, as soon as i close on my condo, it'll be done in about 2 weeks after. it was scheduled for closing on the 15th of november. however, that didn't happen. as with everything i deal with, everything that could go wrong, will. anyways, on that note, we're scheduled close before the 30th of november. and according to that, i'll have paid everything off roughly a week at most ...and thereafter, it's up to who i bought the stuff from to get that stuff here, and kooldino will then be coming down!!i'm excited.

during the break in process of the motor, i won't be using my turbo, we're taking out the wastegate spring, and letting the motor get used to driving first. THEN, i take it up to kooldino(after he comes down to get the motor running), and he'll install my MPI and tune the s*** out of the TURBO beast!!!1

keep an eye out for updates fellas!!

Good luck with it man... it's nice to see a project come full circle. I plan on doing a complete rebuild in the next year myself, and it will probably take me as long or longer because I'll be doing it on my own. I'm anxious to see how your's turns out.

ps. Flywheel and pressure plate are working out great, but I opted for a stage 1 clutch instead, and the combo seems to be working out.

Mazda seems to think otherwise on the issue of interference vs. noninterference. Also when I manually re-timed my engine I spun the crankshaft a few times and no valves were ever touched. Unless you have aftermarket pistons that aren't dished out for the valves it should be A-ok.

well i do have a fully built motor...that COULD be the difference. i have NO idea.

Coolhand-glad to hear that my friend.

Wow, I just now found this thread. Seems like you and me have the same luck with our cars. I always wondered what your ride consisted of since alot of posts from you are "I cant wait to dyno/get times for my car." Haha, well now I know.

Very good build you got there. Glad to finally see your car and mods. Good luck with it all. Maybe you should just paint the whole car champion white. No blend, that would looks sweet. And whats the plan for the dash, I see you tore it out?

well see about paint..i might take that idea ...i just gotta get it done first to see what kinda look it brings..

about the dash, it's nothing spectacular..just the fact that the LX dash is bad, and nasty colored, i'm going to install a full msp interior. so it'll be good looking..

thanks for the compliment. and yes i've had a lot of those kids of posts, unfortunately, money and time haven't permitted this to come as fast as i would have liked..but it'll be here soon enough.

didn't you get rid of your turbo kit? or is that someone else? i hope you stay on the dark side...

hmm, I never seen a lx interior, but good step up I guess.

And yes, that is me selling the kit. I have someone seriously interested that is local, but they want the kit with the new turbo Im waiting on. So when it gets in, Im selling it. Exhaust is getting sold tomorrow hopefully. And I am starting the car up N/A tomorrow with all the stock s*** on hte car.(pissed)

Im going with the hiboost kit/ more practical daily and yet still quick compared to the 50 trim. The 50 trim had a nice kick too it, but alittel to big for my liking. So stock rims, stock exhaust w/cutout, and of coarse a 275-300hp daily with a stock looking p5. Im looking foward to it.

OH ok. good to hear. i didn't realize you were still going turbo. that makes me happy. the lx interior to me is poo poo. on top of that, i painted the lower part of the door panels and a bunch of other s*** blue long ago...which at the time, was cool..no longer. .

good luck on your sale. hopefully you get your new kit soon.

Nail in the coffin...

Here is the response that I got from Mazda... hope this ends the debate:

Hello Rene,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

In regards to your inquiry, the engine on a 2001 Mazda Protege 2.0L is an
interference engine.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.
