Found another one, need help!

I know I must be getting annoying with my quest to find a MS6 but I think I may have found one but I am a bit worried. In the description it says he has an upgraded ATP 3071R turbo kit and an ETS 3.25 inch core intercooler upgrade. Now, the intercooler I'm not to worried about, but I'm not too sure about this turbo. How much power can these cars handle? Do some componets need to be re-built to take the extra pressure? How much extra hp does this turbo give over the stock one? It's an '06 with 60,000 kms (or 37,282.2 miles). He's asking $15,800 which is the absolute cheapest price I have ever come accross in Canada.

Thoughts?

The stock engine can handle a 3071R. We have a few members who have done it successfully. The biggest concern I would have if I were you is "what kind of custom tuning, if any, is powering this car?".

You should be further concerned with whether or not a big turbo swap like that actually fits into what you would realistically buy and use the car for.

yea but its got 10,000 miles less than what hes looking for and im sure he can haggle the price down. i drive past that dealer every day. cars been on the lot for 2 months

As for that car with the 3071, i would stay away. god knows how that car was treated. coulda ran the car at 22psi for s**** n giggles before he put it on sale

I'm willing to pay around $21,000 at the most before taxes in Canadian dollars. I'd like to find one for cheaper because I've seen them for around $18,500 with similar kms. I have seen hundreds of MS6's in the states for a lot cheaper, but as I said before I'm not interested in bringing a car over.

I'm just don't want to buy this car and blow up my engine driving it lol.

To put it to you as honestly as possible... Personally, I would not purchase the car you discussed in your original post. The reason being that there's really not much of a way to know how good the people were who performed the turbo swap, you don't know if it was driven without being tuned, odds are that it was driven extremely hard by the person who did the turbo swap, etc. I think this is another one to pass on. :(

and think about it man, if you had a big turbo speed6, why would you get rid of it!?! who cares if you're not faster than EVOs and STis, care about being one of the few fastest speeds around! somethin aint right.

yea id keep looking. IMHO that would be like buying a ticking time bomb. who knos maybe one of these day achilles will finally get that one in haha

Mod edit: If you want to sell your car start a for sale thread in the proper section and follow the rules.

Do some research on buying a heavily modded car. If you're not going to set aside money and prepare for the worse (ie. blown motor) then skip it. Personally, I'd rather buy a stock, or slightly modded car and do things myself. Just a peace of mind thing more than anything else.

+1 I do have to say that you also gain the benefit of learning the platform and what makes it work. It's a great feeling of accomplishment to understand how your car operates and what makes it better. You also appreciate what the modifications have done to the stock platform as well because you've felt the difference they can make.

Thanks all for the input. Unfortunetly you guys are all probably right:(, but I just wanted to bring it up because it's so cheap that I'd have so much extra money left over to replace and rebuild other engine componets (if I were to buy it). I sent him another e-mail regarding more info on his turbo upgrade. He told me that the engine won't require any kind of re-build. He said he's been driving it for 25,000 kms after he upgraded the turbo and it has been running fine (he claims). He said he used the car as a daily driver and still rides very smooth. But like you guys just said, there really is no way of actually determining how well his car is running and how it's been running in the past.

@ ms3acton, hahaha let's hope one day achilles gets it in :p.

I think I'm going to some research on heavily modded cars though, that will help regardless if I make this purchase. I might look up a few old threads on this forum too.

@ all4bspinnin, sorry if I'm not following the rules but I felt that this topic did not have a specific thread so I posted it in general discussion. I was inquiring about this turbo, the set up he had and the price to quality of the car ratio.
