Former RAV4 Owners Who Crossed Over to CX-5

That big of a difference huh
There’s a story but it’s under investigation at the moment so I might tell you depending on the outcome. However, there are comparisons that I can tell now. The Mazda infotainment is superior to a touch screen, I’m quite content with 19 inch wheels rather than 20 inch runflats, the Lane departure defaults to on and needs to be disabled in a screen menu where the Mazda doesn’t, my mrs cannot fathom the digital door latches and the absolutely silent door locking takes special vigilance to make sure it locked. Those are just a few and nothing life threatening and it does have some big benefits. I never pushed it hard having less than a thousand miles on it but I could tell it was going to fly. The Hybrid powertrain was extremely smooth and was looking like it would do over 40mpg. I expect the CX5 to be not as good. It was very well built and good materials and Lexus do very durable anti chip paint but it cost another £10k ($13k). I heard today they will recall towards 5000 because the top strut mount welds are breaking away from the body but that will be dealt with.

You can’t beat a hybrid for mileage…

Our family went the other way. I still have my ‘13 CX-5, but we went with a 5th gen RAV4 for our second car as opposed to another CX-5.

We take the kids on hikes and to outside adventures all of the time. We wanted the larger cabin the RAV4 provides and it had to be durable. We preferred SofTex to real leather. The rear legroom is better. I also like Toyotas lane centering while cruise control is on. We liked our ‘19 XLE premium gas model, but due to the crazy market we ended up trading it for a ‘21 XSE Hybrid.

All observations here in regard to features for cost, look and feel of the interior, and engine/cabin noise are spot on. The RAV4 isn’t nearly as quiet as the CX-5. I haven’t seen a CX-50 yet, but the marketing appears to be aimed squarely at my lifestyle.

Just an FYI. Only the cargo area is larger on the Rav. Rear seat leg room is 2" less than the CX-5.

I hope Mazda would make a hybrid, thanks 👍🏾

I live in Ca where we have a lot of mountains hills etc.
‘Yesterday going was down hill a certain portion was 55/60 mph.
The mileage I averaged on this is incredible. Around town in which the speeds are
high I average just under 28mpg. I use this gage to monitor my mpg this is on a 2020 CX-5

It really doesn’t feel like it. My mother in law has a 2018 and the kids fit much better in the RAV4. It must be the extra 1.5” of shoulder room, .5” of headroom. The extra 10 cubic feet of cargo space made it a no brainer for weekend outdoor trips.

I don't have kids or pets, so 1 or 2 inches more legroom doesn't really matter to me, or cargo room for that matter. But I agree the Rav4 "felt" a bit more roomy sitting in the back seat, after adjusting the the driver's seat to where I'm comfortable driving.

Don't pay attention to specs when it comes to interior room, gotta sit in it yourself with another person or three, you'll feel more cramped in the CX-5.

I've heard Ford magically adds 2-3" of legroom to their SUV's, so just keep in mind that different car makers might measure the same things differently as well.
