Hi.. im Steve.

Been here for a while.. I think everyone knows me. *waves*

I've just been appointed the task of whipping our little corner of the forum into shape. I know there is a huge Miata/mx-5 following here, we just aren't very organized as of yet.

I'm going to need your help and feedback to make this a better place. Ideas for sub-forums, etc. I'm going to work on getting some vendors and people from other boards (miata.net) over here.

Well, any ideas? (thumb) (first)

We can dooo eet!

Hi there, glad to see this forum taking some direction. while there are millions of sub-forums that you could do, the first place I would start would be two sub forums :mx-5 and ms mx-5. Just a thought. or you could break down into NA, NB, NC. Just a thought. if you need more sub forum ideas just let me know, I can think of a bunch.

hm.. how about..

Mazdaspeed MX-5/Miatas (All years)
NA(1990-1997)
NB(1998-2005)
NC(2006+)

then maybe a drifting/auto-x category for events, dates locations etc. Drifting setups, What good suspension combos to use

Yea, or you could just do an events forum, maybe for those individuals that wanted to set up just a gathering or a cruise or something not drift related. Wouldn't want to deter anyone from posting an event (whatever it may be) just because the events forum is titled drifting/auto X. Just called a forum called events.

You could also do a mods forum for those of us that just can't seem to keep a stock mx-5. To talk about engine mods we have/want to do, or suspension/brakes, or cosmetic (interior or exterior).

I don't think we get enough traffic to need sub-forums.. I think it's fine the way it is now.

I think you need to distinguish yourself in some way from the Miata forum at miata.net. Fill a niche that they don't. What would that be? I don't know yet. Give it some thought. Maybe it is a difference in the owners rather than the cars.

The average person on this site is pretty different then the Miata.net crowd (minus their love for a freakn sweet car).

Id build off that.

wait a minute. I'm different from a typical M.net user? Say it ain't so! i thought with my different panel/different color car that has duct tape covering a rust hole in the rocker panel was typical.

Rock on, Steve. Glad to have you as the mod!

Agreed. Leave it as is. Rarely is there a post in this section that is OT. Not only that, there aren't enough topics to really group together.

However, if you deem it necessary to create a sub-forum for the one and only Turbo Miater GRM $2005/6 Challenge car, go right ahead :D. Version 2 is just around the corner.

lol.. ok.. so far the consensus is to leave it the way it is.. maybe just a few stickies then.

This is an excellent point guys...I agree...This is what we need to discover and pursue

For those that know of miata.net and or are members...Why did you join the Mazda Forums community?..What do you like about it?..What would make you like it more?

Let us know...Thanks! :D

* Nice intro thread Nutari ;)

While I personally have nothing against m.net, I don't feel like I fit in over there. If you took a census of the membership I'd be willing to bet that 90% of it is over 50. I still venture over there to find any useful technical info I need, but I mostly look and learn. I don't contribute very much.

Let's face it, the Miata is a "chick car" or an "old guy car" to most of the world. It's no different where I live. Other than at autocrosses, I've not seen one miata here in Charlotte that wasn't driven by a (non enthusiast) lady or an old dude. (I have nothing against ladies, or old dudes BTW)

The Mazda Forums cater to a younger audience than m.net. Granted, I had a P5 & MSP before I had my miata so I was kind of already here. BUT I feel like I would have ended up here anyhow.

I think we could stand some sub-forums. Say General Miata Discussion and the NA, NB, NC breakdown could work. While I agree that it works the way it is now, that wont always be true. If the miata membership of these forums keeps growing like it is now we will very soon outgrow just having one main forum.

OH, and Hi Steve, I'm Rick.

Being an old dude myself, I think the difference between here & there is more one of mindset than demographics. Folks at m.net tend to be pretty anal about OT posts, cars and life in general. Folks here tend to be a bit looser. Kind of like the diference between the office and happpy hour.

As far as improving this place, I think we just need more Miata-heads in general. And keep the laid back atmosphere.

My $.02.

This forum is good because its more laidback than m.net. However m.net will always have the knowledge that is needed on anything Miata. I think this forum is fine the way it is. I mean, its cool to post here and all with Miata related stuff, but info wise I head str8 to m.net without a doubt.

My biggest concern with online forums is the amount of misinformation that is givin. People will ask a question, and those who *think* they might know, answer as if they are certain. It can be aggravating at times seeing it, but it needs to be corrected.

Its cool having people your age range and similar likes to talk to. But without any information being shared.....it wont improve much more than it now is. I think the BIGGEST thing by far, is to use a group of use fellow miatae people, to get some new products to the market. I have some stuff being built for me right now, and know others from m.net that are doing the same. New products are always a big hit, and could do alot if we started something up.

Of course this is all IMHO. (thumb)

I'm taking this all into consideration. I'm not quite sure what the best outcome would be. I know i can't just head over there and say, "hey everyone come over to msprotege.com cause we're cooler!"

as for the information, I'll contact whoever is running m.net and see if they will let me sticky some links to their garage and aftermarket listings pages.

No but if you knew some people from there you could PM them. Not sure if you do or not.....but starting a thread on the point def is not the way to go.

Information should be from us users here, not necessarily stealing it from them. I can hold my own pretty well when it comes to the Miata, and I'm sure there are a couple other guys on here that are solid with their info. Just linking to m.net defeats the point....I'd just go there in the first place.

One thing I have always wanted to do was set up a page with every Miata/roadster related link that everyone has, all put together. Not just FM and Rspeed....but like, the 70 gazillion other .jp sites that are out there. I know alot of people havent even seen the other half of whats available overseas.
