Domestic vs Imports Round 1!

Listen, all you MSP and P5 Owners need to get a reality check! Quality of American cars have come a long way. Sure the fit and finish is not perfect yet and it might be a little rough around the edges, but if someone offered me a trade for my P5 for a Mustang or GTO, I'd get rid of My mazda so fast, it wold make your head spin. I love my P5...... A lot, but if you can't see the raw coolness and power of muscle cars (Stang, Camaro e.t.c), then you're just in denial. Different strokes for different folks.

Me: I want an 04-05 GTO...BADLY! Or a legacy GT Spec-B or an RX-8 Shinka...... Variety, It's the spice of life!

Mustang = Worst Car ever created stock (ever rode in one?)...
Camaro = Better than the mustang somewhat (Got V6? pfft!)

Sure Mazda's are more or less Beer Cans on wheels but that's what makes it fun to tune and mod them. There are very few cars that are domestic I would trade my MSP for... VERY few. Denial?... no way y0... happy with the seat I am sitting in.

...not to mention, how often would a person pull up next to you in your Mustang at a stop light and go "WTF kind of car is that... that is nice... never seen one of those... WTF is a Mazdspeed?... SWEET!" ... never, that's how often...

Like I said man, domestics are not perfect. I used to work at a dealership so I've driven everything from the crappiest hyundai to a Corvette Z06. The older mustangs seating positions are gosh awful and the interiors are a joke but people need to stop hating like there are no cool domestic cars.

Sure stangs are a dime a dozen, does not change the fact that they are cool cars. When I see a stang done right with a nice color scheme and hear the V8 rumble, I give the thumbs up! It's not perfect but it's cool.

Mazdaspeeds do have the rarity factor and I would love an MS6 (even though I'd rather take a GTO) but you can't argue that the MSP is no where near as reliable as a stock stang would be. Let's not kid ourselves.

All I'm sayin is Domestics have been the butt of jokes forever (trust me I've made my fair share) but for a while now they have been getting more exciting (300C, GTO, NEON SRT4, CTS-V, SRT8 CHARGER e.t.c). Let's just not universally trash them.

Turbos, AWD, etc are cool. But there is also something cool about pure honest to goodness V8 muscle. I'd like on of each actually.

I have never had a reliability problem... ever.

All those cars listed are straight line cars... I'd put my MSP on a road course track against any of them any day of the week and have them crying because their handling sucks

I do agree with you here... muscle is cool to a certain degree, but very limited. The only option you have to change your whp/torque is somewhat major mods... you can't just turn up the boost a little if you need to make a few track runs or run Autocross on a Saturday, you are stuck with what you got.

It basically boils down to what kind of driving you like to do... if you just wanna tool around town and stomp it to light the back tires from a stop light, then ya go with the muscle car. If you like to have a car that can handle a sharp corner on a Autocross track and stick to the track like bubble gum while flooring it in third gear, then tuned boosted cars are the way to go... I prefer tuned, suspension, handling over muscle... but that's me.

My only prob with it is I am pretty sure its an Automatic.

The way ppl discriminate cars, domestic vs import gets as heated as racism sometimes, its kinda scary. respect people and the car they drive, no matter what color they are or the badge their car is wearing.

I think the handling aspect is overplayed. I happen to like corner carvers. Drag racing is fun but not very engaginng but if you're saying that a CTS-V (tuned at the nurburgring mind you), SRT-4 and GTO are "straight line cars" exclusively, I must say you're rather mis-informed or just jaded. I guarantee you that those cars would embarrass an MSP around a track! Granted the have a power advantage but to say that the MSP can beat them around a track is just silly.

As for Boost vs N/A, thats a whole other can of worms, but I prefer N/A cars because they are more reliable, less stuff to break, and not dependent on forced induction to make power, no turbo lag e.t.c. but turbo cars are very fun also.

I have to say that with all the reliability issues I've seen people having with MSP's, I'd be very cautious about buying one, but it seems that Mazda have gotten it right with the MS3 and MS6 (both EXCELLENT cars).

Bottom line the whole: There are no domestics that handle thing is really more of a myth than anything else. Sorta like Hondas are lighter than any other car ever made.

AMEN TO THAT!

I see a WRX STi, I give it props

I see a G35 coupe, I think SEXY!

I see an MS6, I start to drool and crane my neck for a better view

I see a GTO, I know that while most folks will mistake it for a grand am, it would be the last mistake they would ever make once it lit up those LS2 propelled rear tires!

I see a last gen BMW M5 (another muscle car that can handle), I lust uncontrollably

They are all beautiful unique machines and any true car enthusiast (import freak or muscle head) should appreciate them!

In regards to handling... a local guy here got a SRT-4 ... brought it back the next day and said he wanted his money back... horrible handling car... just for one example. Went and got the MSP the same day... I'm not saying the MSP is a "God" car... holy crap, us MSP owners know better, but it is a very well rounded auto from all sides... honestly, I really don't want much more horsepower than I have... but I like track driving... carving if you will... the car does well.

M5?... man hell, we all want one of those... but that ain't no Camaro, Mustang, or Domestic. If I had the cash, i'd be in one... N/A, hell yes... but just think if it was boosted?!?!?!?! ZOOM ZOOM!
