Damn $12.7 billion dollars in losses for 2006! How rich is ford I don't understand how they stay afloat after all this. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16804725/

You left out the Unions in that list of things wrong with ford.Topher said:no kidding...i've heard from our ford rep that something along those lines is in the works...but who knows what/when. to give you an idea of how bad it is for FMC...all of our reps had to re-apply for their jobs. they've closed most of their regional offices. ford motor credit is down to 4 i believe...or will be within the year. it isn't just the plants they are closing down.
i think there are a few reasons they're suffering. 1. their product. most of the cars they sell are crap (ie, focus)...the fusion is nice...the five hundred is bland...the crown vic, well...you can buy a grand marquis MUCH cheaper and it's the same damn car. the f150's are uncomfortable...the cloth fabric stains if you get water on it...and the seats are hard as s***. 2. pricing. we have an f150 that lists for 39K...i've seen some over 40K...how ******* retarded is that? it's a damn truck. the car lines aren't THAT over-priced (although they could come off on the focus, imo)...and have you priced an edge? leather, dvd, sel+ package = 32K...nice. 3. they need something exciting instead of the same old s***. everything is so boring...hey, i've got an idea...let's build something that looks GOOD and performs well.
oh well, just my .02

Ford used to have one; which was the Taurus, that is when they were doing well. They don't have a bread and bbutter car now and that is why they are in trouble.
what about the fusion? I thought that was bread and butter.02p5 said:To survive in todays car market you need a "bread and butter" car. there's acutaly quite a few out here, that along with the five hundreds, even my mom's company car is a ford fivehundred, along with the other company car's nationwide insurance puchased (being fords, not necessarly five hundreds) most of them can be attributed to more ford loyality in the area however, because as many fusions and 500's as I've seen, I've also seen a good deal of new camry's and tons of the new civic's and accords.Rio Racer said:I never see the ford fusion around here in CT and they've been out in the market for a long time.
