Ford Focus vs Mazda3 GS Skyactiv

yeah i am comparing out the door price. and i didn't add in heated seats to the focus cause i have no use for heated seats. and i have a quote from the mazda dealer putting the 2012 gs-sky and just shy of $29,000 and the 2013 focus at around $25,000

Sedan or hatch? Base, moonroof, moonroof+leather, or touring package? Why the need for an aftermarket head unit? Just use your smartphone and pair it via Bluetooth to the stock audio system.

It's up to you... 2012 Mazda 3 and some 2013 Ford Focus have 0% financing right now, you also get an additional $1,000 off Focus if you have you're a Costco member (Doesn't apply to the Focus S sedan).

Canada doesn't have a touring pack. I am looking at the mazda 3 gs-sky its the base model sky active hatchback with manual trans the only upgrade I'm adding are fog lights and window tint and the rubber mat in the hatch price including tax: $26741.52

Focus se hatch with manual trans 201A upgrade and sport / black pack upgrade with my ford touch and a set of winter tires and rims supposedly for $25,000

I hate to say it but it seems like ford is a way better deal :( I like both cars, I think I want the 3 more (only cause I have always loved mazda) but the focus is pretty nice to be honest. I saw one guy with only an intake, header, gapped plugs, and exhaust on the new focus put oner 170 hp to the ground and still getting 40mpg

The touring package is new in Canada for 2013, $1,400 adds push button start, dual zone automatic climate, Bose sound system, and rear spoiler, but you need the moonroof and leather package on top of that, so that's a $3,695 upgrade over base in total...

The foglights are only for show, or to make your car more visible in the fog but it doesn't do anything to illuminate the road better.

I paid $26,300 for my 2012 Skyactiv manual with moonroof and leather package, they threw in tint with that price. The all weather mats are junk unless they can get you the heavier duty all weather liners similar to the Weathertechs.

They're both good cars. I really like the Focus too, I would've bought it if the damn rear seat wasn't too small.

if you made the fogs HID would that make a difference? are all stock fogs these days junk? also can't you polarize the lenses somehow?

what dealership?! geez supposedly they don't have much mark up here in canada. if that is true how are you getting yours for several thousand less

i think they still think the canadian dollar is worth a third less than the american dollar.

you should check out the mazda global website (www.mazda.com) and go to the canada and usa site and check out the differences.

why dont you guys have the 2013 mazda3? i test drove one here over a month ago that was a 2013. our 2013 skyactiv 3 comes standard now with dual climate control and push button start. (both things i dont need, but did add about $700 to the base price)

so here, the starting price is $20000 for a touring skyactiv 3. i get the s-plan(not sure how, but it is around 500 off) and another 500 off for customer loyalty. it all about comes together to cover the taxes, and it will be around 20k for me out the door. oops, forgot destination, so maybe around 21k.
im going to put some money down, unless they offer 0% financing when i buy. right now it is .9% so it might just be 0 when i actually buy in january or feb.

i miss america :( everything here costs so much more for either the same item or a worse item. Hell i looked up what the 2013's are and they still have non skyactiv models and some don't even have AC stock but cost more than the american model

i really think mazda lowballs everything since their mistake in 2003 with the rx8 when they overrated its hp. not only does the 3 seem to get better mpg, it seems more powerful than a measly 155hp.

hyundai/kia i believe are both in hot water over mpg's. it seems they are compensating people well though, and it shouldnt be too bad for them.

IMHO, hyundai and kia still suck. Their engineering is what sucks. I won't buy either brands, until they learn how to actually engineer their cars to get the mpg's that they claimed, some of their models were 4 to 5 mpg's off, that is a lot, and until they can actually learn to tune a suspension that isn't more atrocious than a soft toyota's suspension, and actually produce a decent powertrain, I won't give them a consideration. It doesn't matter how good the sheet metal looks or how many technology goodies their cars have on them, when their engineering is so lacking compared to other japanese auto makers. Basically everything that makes Mazda fun to drive, from their engines, their sweet gearboxes, to their nicely tuned suspensions, hyundai's and kia's are the polar opposite of that. They could learn a lot from Mazda.

The Koreans have found some styling lately, the new Hyundais and Kias are some great looking cars. But they still can't grasp the quality of the chassis and the driving experience like the Mazdas do. Same with the Focus, the car and technology are nice, but it won't get you looking for twisty roads to fling it like the 3 does.

i drove the elantra a week ago and wasn't impressed with handling or the trans. honestly the focus is the only one that i drove that held a candle to the 3. and when i was flipping through the focus forums a lot of people were getting 34-44 mpg so not really much different than the skyactiv 3. honestly i think the only thing that is really causing me an issue is that the 3 is 2-3 grand more and i get far few options. and with the focus if i removed the my ford touch option it would likely be almost 4 thousand dollars cheaper and still have more options

gees

ive ordered my 2013 skyactive hatch and it is only 20,000 here. not to mention destination is only 795 here verses almost 2000 over there.

im pretty sure the US and Canadian dollars are pretty much equal, so that really sucks for you guys up north. (well... technically windsor is south of where i am :))

for 25K here you can get a focus st, or a speed3 with some cash left over.

I'm in Canada, in Newfoundland Canada actually, and I got my old 3 out the door for 20K. I could also get a 2010 speed3, new at the time, for $25K or less out the door. If you pay nearly 30K for a N/A 3, you're out to lunch

It's best IMO, to buy the very base of what you want, and add on after. You can get better quality for cheaper. Especially when it comes to the cars audio. $2100 for a touch screen? You can go buy 3 or 4 AWESOME ones for that price sure

i tried looking at the report but unless i pay to subscribe it won't let me. Has it really dropped? i wonder what happened, a few years ago they were getting rave reviews on reliability

I don't trust this list at all considering the issues toyota has had and somehow they top the list?!

Consumer reports is really biased toward Toyota and Honda, and as far as the elantra goes, it has a torsion beam for the rear part of the suspension instead of multi-link, like most other auto companies. The Mazda 2 has a torsion beam for it's rear, but with a car that small, it doesn't need a multi-link, but a car the size of an elantra in 2012 should have a multi-link suspension in the rear.
