Foggy head lights?

Well I just bought a 2003 Protege5 a few weeks ago, first car (rei) so i'm just doing some stuff to clean it up... i was wondering if anyone knows of a way to clean up the head light lenses? they're just fogged up and dirty i believe, but i've heard of products to make them clear again, just wondering if anyone knows of anything. thanks!

Someone just posted up some good results with the TurtleWax kit, less than $8. But if you have a buffer you can get rid of it with a polishing pad and cleaner wax. Severe oxidation will need to be wet sanded first and then polished for best results. A coat or two of wax or sealant will help keep them looking good.

+1 on the 3M kit. It did wonders on my headlights and made the car look soo much better. The kit has everything you need and is super simple to use. Got mine at Walmart.

well i actually ended up using the turtle wax kit, my local auto parts store didn't have the 3M. it actually worked amazingly, looks like the car just rolled off the assembly line now well... minus the little bruises

I'm working on mine right now with the 3M kit. Its so hot outside though, my drill charger keeps overheating and shutting off.

what ever you do dont sand and polish your headlights!!! This will completly remove the UV protectants and permantly damage your headlights!!!

you honestly don't even need a drill, i just buffed it manually and it came out great. of course that might depend on how bad your lights are, mine weren't too bad.

Cleared up the lights to my wife's Protege today with the 3M kit:

I've been told not to use the chemical based headlight restoration kits and just use the one that comes with the sand paper and buffer. Is this true? I don't wantto have to do this every other month, every 6 months or so is fine but what gives best long term results? (minus buying new headlights of course!)

i've heard that regular toothpaste works surprisingly well too, the paste not the gell. I never tried it but might some day. At least the lights will be minty fresh!

I typically use a medium duty rubbing compound and some elbow grease.

I will never understand why n e one would pay more than 2-3$ to do this.

Go to ur local hardware store get 1 sheet (8 1/2x11) of 1500 grit WATERSAND and 2000 grit water sand, if you have an orbital buffer get one sheet of 2500 or 3000grit watersand either one works.

You can tape the bumper off, but I prefer to take the headlights out. sand the s*** outta em. I would say going back and fourth is easier if you only have an orbital buffer. do it till u get a good haze but a smooth finish.

re install em on the car and buff with the side of the obital. Worked on my P5 and my friends.
