FMIC protection from rocks, etc.

I'm about to install a COBB FMIC. Are the majority of people with FMICs doing something to protect it from stones, etc.? If so, how and what are the options? Thanks

Unless you drive in areas with poor roads then I dont think stones should be a problem. Do you have a lot of dents in your front bumper from stones / debris? From what I have seen most people leave it unprotected. You already have a grill covering it. If your still paranoid than you could always buy a new lower grille.

Yeah I was gonna say... definitely keep the grille insert in there cause I took mine out for a month or two and there were all kinds of dents and bugs in the core and everything. Since then I have straightened everything out and put the grille back in.

i wouldn't really worry about it. smaller rocks may be able to slightly damage some of the thinner cooling fins, but the larger plates won't be affected. if it's big enough to do some damage to the FMIC, odds are it would damage something else just as easily.

think about it this way - an FMIC is front and center for many performance cars; do you see them commonly being protected? damaging the small fins will have a minimal impact upon cooling capability of the FMIC, and it shouldn't be too hard to get bugs etc. cleaned off. i would just recommend against using a pressure washer as that could do some damage.
