Just wondering the advantages both have over each other and the all of the good s*** in between...Like how much power you gain from both, of course SMIC is much easier to install than the FMIC. And just overall performance and smoothness from the people that have them, i'm going to upgrade my IC but I don't know if I want to sacrifice more money on a FMIC if I only need a SMIC, na whatta mean? Thanks guys

it depends actuly, if you have hard pipes owready i recomend to go with upgraded smic, if not fmic will cost you about same, also how much power you trying to run. with stock turbo smic will be plenty for you

your final power goals are gonna play a roll.

if this is just a bump in daily driving power, with a few other mods, then a SMIC could be the way.

if you're looking for an intercooler than can stay efficient with other big mods you plan to do, then go with the FMIC.

yep final hp has a lot to do with it.
also SMIC is much eaiser to install than FMIC so if u don't feel like doing the work and not oging for 250+ hp u can stick with a smic.

I went with Street Unit Upgraded SMIC and hardpipes with an SSQV. It costed me around $1100 after all said and done. I am extremely happy!

Another factor you have to look at which coincides with the other three comments is how much psi are you planning on running. If you are only planning on running ~10 psi, a FMIC is not for you as not for me either. With all the work involved, and the costs being about the same, you are better off going with the SMIC.

It took me about 4 hours to put everything in. The only reaon it took me that long was because I had to find a mechanic with a snap ring plier to get the SSQV mounted.

Even worse when you're trying to replace an A/C clutch without dropping the engine a bit or taking the wheel well apart. grrrrrrrrr

Power gain depends on your supporting mods. One offers easy install and the other offers an enhanced appearance behind your grill. Both perform well at handling heatsoak and preventing detonation. There are some powerful MSP's running around with each type.

I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend and whether or not you want the install to be straightforward or a little more of a challenge. You would be happy with either one in my opinion.

For the money of a side mount I'd suggest just spending a bit more and getting a much better setup.

There will be a new FMIC coming out shortly that will be very reasonably priced.

New FMIC?... about when will it come out?

Not sure quite yet, we've been working on it though. The final adjustments were made yesterday.

Wouldn't a SMIC have less lag?

You're not filling a vacuum, you are still displacing air with air. So since it's a closed system, the amount of air that goes in is the amount of air that comes out. And don't worry about the "balloon factor" at that low psi.
