I'm gonna go ahead and just put this out there.. Mazda engineered the hood/ducting/tmic setup to work well. I doubt RE Amemiya has as large a team of engineers... and if that hood works sooo much better, why didn't Mazda see that and go with that design.. that duct style (NACA duct) is well known.. it's not like it's some new thing. I really think the fact that the grille openings are right in the front of the car being blasted with air makes the TMIC perform as well as a FMIC of the same size/type at speed, just with the negative of heatsoaking when stopped in traffic.. which is very quickly fixed by just moving :P

yea but ur saying get a fmic and a cf hood......i know im SMART

Are you saying just get a CF hood, and not a front mount? because thats completely retarded. Replacing the stock hood with just a CF hood that doesn't have proper ducting to the TMIC will hurt your cars cooling capabilities

its also $1700+ shipped to US. Go ahead and buy one.

corksport has the fiberglas one they will order and its around 1000 or so, plus shipping and weeks to ait, same as the front lip.

the ducts are easily removable for sue on a new hood as long as the hood is the same size...jstu with a scoop...im talkin clearance on the intercooler

I was poking around and I think it would be pretty easy to make a Custom front mount, from our good friends that produced our upgraded TMIC, they make a good core for $300, and the piping on ebay would be around $120 shipped, which Im sure you could get all you need for under 500-600, depending if you want samco silicone or not. I was talkin with my buddy with his Audi w/ Ko4 that the best thing for our turbo so you dont get bad pressure drop is to get 2.25 piping. I got it all mapped out how I would run it depending on the final entrance to the throttle body. I still didnt see a post on the price for the kit, but for our cars it would be better for a front mount, the top mount does its job, and the upgraded tmic does an even better one. IF the stock one feels cool to the touch on top of the engine, imagine how it would feel to the touch on the front of the car. Its all a matter of taste and how much you want to do to your car...

I was thinking about having an intercooler like the one posted. I found a couple paths/holes and completely based the piping on that. There are 2 different ways you could go to the TB from the IC but this is just my really rough sketch. I mainly wanted to get it on paper and go from that. Im really curious to see how they ran it!

Yes I scanned this into my computer from a peice of paper (ghey)

All, The stock hood weighs 39 lbs. That really isn't too much. Say you lower it by 20 lbs. Is 19 lbs (equivalent to about 3 gallons of gas or a case of beer) really going to help you get that extra edge? Does't justify the money or change from Mazda Engineering to? engineering.

Thats all the stock hood weighs? It feels like That much wieght when you open it, but the whole hood? I would like a Cf hood for looks and wieght, I would want a louver style hood though to go along with the front mount, then it would suck out all the hot are in the engine bay. Making it also very functional... An Sti style hood would most likely work well Along with the rubber surround on the top making the air go through the IC. Who knows though, I really REALLY hate how that Hood above looks though, in CF it dosent look too bad, but they could have done better, especially for $1200 (mj)

the pipes are so long ....imo cf hood with a scoop like that one with the stock air ducts attached to it would be better than fmic

Yeah, I was thinking that the pipes would be so long that it won't even be worth it. We would be better off with a hood scoop for the TMIC IMO.

The deal with pipe length is *greatly* mitigated by having the correct pipe diameter. 2" vs 2.25" may be significant in this case. The smaller diameter will keep air velocities up, have less volume to pressurize and be generally more responsive. And if Corky Bell says 2" is adequate, us plebes should at least ask ourselves why he feels this way since his tremendously experienced engineering expertise seems to be saying that more is not necessary. Unless of course it's the only way to get it all to fit. But that seems unlikely, no?

from corksport themselves, thats what they are claiming

look under news and anouncments for 1/18/07
i also called them and thats the answer they gave me, but someone else was told with exaust, downpipe, intake and intercooler they saw that. i just read. But thats what they said to me. I was like it sounded high when i talked to them. BUt the kit is to be around 1100 bucks. and it being finished!

That would absolutely be the case. NO intercooler setup is going to give you any sort of power boost like that. At best, you're just reducing heat soak. ICs aren't magical HP producers in most cases.

yea **** that...so much work for less heat soak while u sit at a light...wow...with a scoop it would make it alot better and ic upgrade...less stress and u kill 2 birds with one stone....improve tmic performance and get a nice aggressive scoop for everyone to look at while u creep up behind them in the rear view.....just imo tho....
