FM Automatic Turbo Kit...

Okay guys, I have a 2002 Mazda Protege ES Sportshift. I am planning on getting a turbo in the near future and was wondering how turbos work with automatic trannys? I will be purchasing the Flyin Miata Kit and it says at the bottom of the page "NOTE - there is still some final work to be done for automatic cars. Some modifications have to be made to the electronics and intercooler setup." I presume that means when the touches are final, it will work right? Or am I being tricked? :D

Should work, but don't expect to have a SUPER fast automatic...

I too have a 2002 sport shift automatic.
I also plan to go with the FM kit once they have everything worked out with the install on an automatic.
And I don't expect to have a "SUPER" fast auto.
But it should be a lot quicker and i will be satisfied with that.

As for 1/4 mile times... I am curious myself.
From what I have read, I believe "StuttersC" has an FM kit installed on his MP3.
Even though his is a manual, you may be able to make some "rough" comparisons with his car to get an idea.
As I stated before, I don't expect it to be "super fast", but with the amount of torque they are showing on the dyno, I bet it feels awesome.

I am just curous what the stock auto is dynoing at, so I have an idea how much more HP the slushbox is eating up.

Also, this may be a stupid question, but is there anything out there to help combat torque steer on an automatic? I saw the device for the manual, but didn't see anything for an auto. Just curious.

Automatic turboed cars are cool....
Ive seen 300ZX auto w/ turbo and they are fast.

It just depends....our trans are not that good, but in high end competition, muscle cars, automatics are preferred.

The thing that's holding up the automatic kit is that we need an automatic car for test fitting! Anyone in Texas or Colorado want to help out?

Kieth,
How long would you need the car?
I liv ein St. Louis, but was planning on driving out there once the kit was ready to have you guys install it anyway. The only concern I have is that my car is a daily driver. So I can't leave it there for i.e. a month and when I do get the kit installed, I need to have all the bugs worked out (since it's my daily driver).
Thanks,
Dale.

About a week and a half - but you'd have to schedule it after the Open Track Challenge.

im in california, that starts with a "c" like colorado!! damn! i wish i could take you up on that...sure you dont wanna move down to CA? mild weather year round, pleasant altitude for turbo applications, no snow in the road to slide on...........let me know!!!!!!

Okay, I am in California and wanting a CARB legal FM kit in my automatic P5 as well. I was planning on driving out to Colorado to have it installed at some point, possibly as soon as the end of this summer. It all depends on finances. Am also linking into putting in the level ten torque convertor to help things out on the tranny end.

http://www.levelten.com/store/import/items/converter/ja313_2000_mazda_converter.htm Any thoughts on good stall speeds for improved performance with the Turbo without totally losing daily drievability? Some of their other items look good too, but so expensive... :(

{wishful thinking}Want to finance me for a test fit Keith? ;) ;) (knudge, knudge) I can make payments, he he. {/wishful thinking} No problem vacationing in beautiful Colorado for a week or two.

You could just use the Thomas Knight Turbo attack and bang pipes with a hammer until they look like they'd fit. Wouldn't even need a test car!

In this scenario would the labor for the install be free?
