Floor mat hook...

Is it me or does everybody has a rusty floor mat hook on the driver side. I am referring to that hook that holds the floor mat in place and prevents it from moving forward. I have already sanded and painted the hook once after 1.5 years. and now after 3 years I had to do it again, this time with paint/primer in one. The factory paint just flaked off spontaneously. At least it's easy to remove and repaint,, but it's really annoying. They should have made that hook stainless steel or something as it will see salt if you live in snowy area.

We only have more than 20% humidity 3 mos out of the year and sometimes in the winter. No rust, but I would expect that.

Yup have painted it more than once.

Wire wheel it down to bare metal, get some aerosol cold galvanizing compound from Lowes, Plastidip in color of your choice. That mother should not rust again in your lifetime LOL

Lol yea I should have done the plastidip

Well this time I painted it x 3, so it's got 3 layers, we will see what happens, I used primer/paint in 1...

In your salt ravaged part of the world I would strongly advocate the use of cold galvanizing to better prep the metal before paint. I use CRC cg aerosol at work to patch paint the dunnage on an evaporative cooling tower and it takes about a year for rust to work its way through. Without the cg treatment rust will destroy marine-grade paint on the tower base in about three weeks!

Sounds like a lot of work for a floor mat clip :)

I'll try aero rust converter then aero top coat and see how it endures. Enamel paint (stuff for calipers and ovens) should work well too.

Dealer apparently sells them for $7.50 or so. Still trying to get a part number out of them. I'll post a write-up once I complete my mod of the passenger side all-weather mat

I read this yesterday and went out and looked in my 2014. Mine are little posts with a tear drop shaped "key" to help keep the mat from coming off. Is this what you are calling clips? Mine sure feel like plastic/hard rubber.

Yeah, looks like they switched to plastic for the 2012+, so rusting won't be an issue. Now snapping them off by accident is another story...

Got a part number. 0000-8B-L40

And yes it is different from the plastic clip ones. These are a "metal" bracket with a screw hole
