Flat Panel/Plasma TV's

mine has the bucket too. I just don't use it. If you have the same one I did, it comes with a white plastic pipe that hooks onto the drain spout, and ports out the back of the dehumidifier. From there you just run a length of hose to an external pipe and BAM.. auto-drain.

Is it a power pump or gravity feed?

Gravity. I drilled the hole about 3 inches above the floor. The total drop from the spout inside the unit to the end of the pipe outside is about 12 inches. Works like a champ.

Keep in mind that an LCD flat panel, Plasma panel, and DLP (made by Texas Instruments, NOT samsung) are not even in the same ballpark. DLP is a projection device, and subject to a whole different set of troubles and must not be compared directly with a flat panel.

Not to discount the quality or advancements in technology Samsung brings to the market, but DLP isn't really their own thing. I wouldn't judge a DLP TV over LCD flat panel or plasma because they aren't at all used in the same way in a house. A DLP can't deal with a lot of ambient light or off-angle viewing, due to the very nature of projection technologies. Whereas a flat panel produces light without projection, and has different display properties completely.

Personally, DLP without going to a 3 panel design to control rainbow effect, is unwatchable for me. I get sick when I try to watch a single-chip DLP device during movies with a lot of motion in them. I'm not alone in this issue.

A projection device like a DLP is also equipped with a wearable component (the lightbulb), and as such you should add about $200 to its cost each couple of years.

We have a 37 inch Panasonic HD plasma manufactured in the middle of '05. I just had to move it lol - still heavy as hell IMO for what displays could be in the future. We used to have a same size CRT and that thing was insanely heavy. At least I can move the plasma alone, needed like 3 big men for the old CRT + spotters lol.

We have a Hitachi 51" projection in the living room 720p/1080i picture is pretty good. Back in the bedroom we just got a Sharp LCD Aquos (sp) 32" 1080p. I am impressed with this TV. To go with all of it we purchased a Sony Blu-Ray player. So far I like the Blu-Ray. We will prolly go out and purchase adn HD DVD player late winter early spring time. From what I have been reading the battle between those two is far from over so it will be ok by me to enjoy them both.

Anyone have any experience with a good LCD tv or computer monitor around 19" that would be good for playing an Xbox 360 on? I've been looking but I'm curious as to what some of you guys have to say.

I have a 22" westinghouse LCD monitor (1680x1050 resolution with multiple AV inputs in back). I hooked up my PS3 to it a few times, but I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute for a tv. The graphics seem choppy and "cube like". As a monitor it is awesome, great for movies or computer games. But I wouldn't recommend a monitor for watching tv or for a gaming system. You should probobly look for a small LCD tv instead of just a monitor if you plan on using a Xbox. I did hook up a SNES and it looked very good, just like on a tv. But graphic wise thats not saying much.

Look at Samsungs with their quick refresh rate. I think you'll like them in this setting. Also, the deep black levels they produce will let you see through shadows better.

I also have a 50" Samsung and i love it! its only a 720p put the picture is great! i just got it a few months ago and it was too good of a deal to pass up...deal was 50" DLP, Halo edition Xbox 360 + free game of choice, $100 nfl gift card all for 1100! i thought i would be disappointed with 720p but it looks great and at only about $650 for the tv who cares....

My next purchase was a computer to it into a HTPC (home theatre pc). I how have all my items i need networked so that i can view them from any where in the house. I use the computer for all my music, photos, dvd collection, a DVR, internet surfer from the couch with a 50" screen. its great and i would never go back...

ill get a fill HD someday down the road. I would defiantly recommend a Samsung.

My viewsonic monitor is pretty lame. The contrast is so bad that I have to jack the brightness of any game way up otherwise everything is too damn dark.

Playing a game like diablo is impossible unless it always looks like day time.
i have there lowest line of monitor though.

I have an Olevia 27" HDTV with the ATSC tuner, I thought it was a great deal for $300 new.
HDTV looks passable, but regular channels aren't that great, but for $300, they exceed my expectations.

The Sharp Aquos that we got has what they call a Vyper drive for gaming. Supposed to help with the choppy graphics. We haven't tried it out yet.

i know its not a big name brand but Polaroid makes some good tv's for an even better price. i bought a 32" 720p lcd for 1000 just as it came out. have had it over a year and a half now and have had no problems with it. now you can get this tv with a built in dvd player for like 600. they make the tv in many sizes from 15"-47." the 47" has 1080p and is just under $1400. they received good reviews and my buddy who sold me the tv said they never got one complaint on one. Do not buy a plasma if your going to be gaming for hours or watching tv for hours. pictures burn into the screen fairly easy and lcd is the best right now. i went to a gaming expo a few months ago and they had plasmas for all of there displays. new tvs at the start of the day and i'd say more than half already had images burned into the screen. I'd recommend a 1080p lcd in whatever brand you want. just think though, the more money you save on the tv can be some extra mod money for your car.

I haven't experienced and of this "burning image thing" with my Plasma 1080i most of which is PS3 between my two boys and me sometimes 16hrs on all day straight. I try not to leave it on if a game is on pause but even after a couple hours paused a few minutes later the image fades.

I'm pretty sure this problem has been overcome!! I thought LCD is a better candidate for a dark room. Too much light and the dark colors appear faded and glared.

LCD is for bright rooms, plasma is for a darker room.
This is do to the reflectivity of the glass that covers a plasma display.

Plasma can and does still burn it. It simply takes longer now then it originaly did. Every screen has some features to delay the effects but it is still possible.

Burn-in is almost nil these days. May be a problem with a cheap plasma (if such a thing exists). Good plasmas are now being rated just as high in hour life span as LCD...some even higher!

LCD is not the better choice for dark rooms (neccessarily). LCDs are back lit so light will always bleed through leaving the blacks looking washed out a bit. Technology is getting better there however.

The plasma vs. lcd debate could go on and on. I say find what you like and enjoy it. My sound system makes any picture look good! lol
