Flat Panel/Plasma TV's

I bought this thing on Monday
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8439479&type=product&id=1183160137263

I absolutely love it. 19" at 720p beats out 32" of standard crap tv. I played without sound for a little bit but then remembered I had some extra computer speakers, and they aren't great, but sound is better than no sound. The Xbox 360 looks great though.

ah so you did get it andy. cheap HD FTW.

wow, I just paid that much for a lamp replacement for the Sony. (boom07)

I just hooked up my new Samsung LCD.. My PS2 seems sluggish and horrible when put through that thing..

I think I need to get the component video hookups to make it look right again.

Honestly, put all the technical crap to the side. Its really too much information than is really needed.

Here is what you do:

1.) Go to the store and look at the tvs. Pick the one you think looks the best and fits your budget.

2.) Make sure it has all the ports you need to connect you cable/xbox/ps3/wii whatever.

3.) Take it home and be happy.

Seriously, the only place you will notice any difference in quality is at the store when they have 500 tvs all next to each other. Once you get it home, it will look fantastic and you will be happy. There will be no $10,000 60" plasma sitting next to it making it look lame.

Choose a reliable company and you should be fine. Half the time you just have to google the Tv's model number and you are garenteed to find people talking about it. If there is a serious issue with it, it will be posted.

Dont make this purchase something you toil over because one tv has one tiny little extra feature or whatever. Buy what makes you happy and what you like and be done with it. :) Good luck!

Bump for more knowledge. I am thinking about getting one of these soon. I think I have decided to stick with sony brand. Costco has a few deals on a couple of good TV's.

I beleive the local costco has this: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11267656&whse=BC&Ne=5000001+4000000&eCat=BC|79|2341&N=4001382%204294967225&Mo=0&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=#

Thoughts on above stated TV?

I am also thinking of cashing in on the CC/BB incentives right now and picking up: http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/188922/catOid/-12869/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Which do you think I should get? 1sty any thoughts?

I would hit the AVS forum and really dig into the differences of the Bravia series and XBR4 and XBR5.
Make sure you actually need what you are paying for.
If memory recalls the XBR4 has some serious advantages over the Bravia but the difference between the 4 and 5 are few and far between.

In any event, I would not hesitate for a second to put any of them in my home.

You really need the 52?

I think Circuit has the Bravia LCd cheaper then costco too.
Also, keep in mind their are 2 bravia lines, the W and the V.

Well I was at a friends house and they have a 52 sony I think its the one I am looking at. I feel that it would currently be overkill in my bedroom BUT at the same time I want something to last. I am wanting something high 40's because I do not want it to be that I get a TV and then have it be too small for my room if that makes any sense. I am still debating on the size and price factor a bit. I was the 52 so it will be the end all to all TV's and not have to deal with upgrading for a few years. But I somewhat fear that fact that it might be too big, and especially when I move out hopefully this summer into a place with my gf. A certain part of me feels its overkill but then again the guy in me says :flip: my tv is the s*** and bigger/better then yours.

Well after some deducing the Costco Sony KDL-52WL135 is basically the same as the KDL-52W3000, I will now start doing research for the KDL-52W3000. Even though it is not the new XBR I still might highly consider it seeing as how the XBR is having a shading/blurring issue when playing video games.

Any ideas/thoughts?

I would go 46"
Depending on how close you are, large often = worse picture.
I have a 37" and sitting about 10 feet away, it is a little small. 50" at that distance was boarderline too large.

Over the next few years, expect nothing to last.
Everything is only going to keep accelerating in developement to the point that in 5 years LCD and Plasma may both be replaced all together.
Also, HDMI is already being replaced although we will not see it happen on the actual products for another 5 years.
Not to mention, shortly, you should start to see a melding of your TV, computer, and DVD player into one unit. This is pure speculation but there is really nothing stopping us from renting movies via website streaming drectly to our TVs or enternainment systems. Many systems can already do this. Hell with and Xbox or PS3 you are basicly already their with a Blueray player/hard drive/network player.

seems everyone is gettin one here lately. my cuz got one for her dorm. it's a 30 something, haha; my g/f's parents got a 37" for the one hour of news they watch a day; and her sister and her b/f got a 42", they was considering a 47" but it barely fit. haha.

Depends what kinda dorm I guess, I had to chain my laptop down with security leashes so no one "picked it up" and "took it away". Honestly, if I was in a dorm and I saw a nice flat panel TV, I'd prolly lift it.

Mr. 4500 RPM, dude, honestly....go buy the damn TV already. You posted 3 months ago and still has not bought the TV. Jesus, man, you need to get decided on whatever was posted here. I don't know why up to this point that you're still asking for advice since I haven't read the whole thread. Maybe you're waiting for a good deal or strapped for cash.

I'm not trying to be a dick but it's been 3 months. It's not like you're house-hunting. Peace!!!!

Yeah, that was really needed.

I vote yes on the Samsung. I bought a 46" LCD Samsung last year and I love it. I don't think it's the same model number as the one you have listed there, but regardless I say get it. You can't go wrong with Samsung my friend.

I can understand why your saying this but its been back and forth for several reasons. Originally was going to be a x-mas present but I got a new jeep grand cherokee so I wonder why I didn't get it then. . .

And with the new 120hz refresh rate lcd's coming out I have been holding out. I like to bargain shop and get a good deal and not waste money unnecessarily hence why I have waited for so long. I appreciate your input but if you have nothing to say on the actual topic stay out of here thanks. Plus I figure this would be a good discussion on lcd's in general since it has been helpful for many people.

A TV is a big investment and you'll be stuck watching it for hopefully up to 10 years. It took me a long time to make a decision on one and after I finally got my 42" I realized I should have done it a long time ago!
