flash sigs = resource hogs

I've noticed a bunch of people with these slide.com signatures. They're really eating up my system resources, especially considering the purpose they serve to me (nothing at all). Can we do something about this? I noticed it when I had a page minimized and half my CPU time was being eaten up by the forums I wasn't viewing at the time (shocked)

lol... everytime there's a crack down on sigs people tidy their s*** up... then quickly it's all forgotten again and they try to show off their e-ego with all this s*** in their sigs

From our rules and guidelines:

II. User Profile

1. User signatures may contain both text and images.

2. The maximum size for signatures including all text and images is 750 pixels wide by 300 pixels high, or 250 KB, whichever is smaller.

noone cares about those rules anymore. i see huge sigs all the time.

Then you need to report them.

We can't view every single users' signatures. It simply is not feasible.

When we see one that violates the rules, we change it. We need to rely on people reporting them to catch the rest of them.

ALL rules are enforced. However, staff members simple CANNOT read every single post that is made on the board. Like every other large forum in existence, we rely on our members using the "report bad post" button to ensure compliance with the rules.

Anybody who complains about rules not being enforced in all situations, and who does not do anything about it (i.e. report it to a moderator or administrator) has absolutely NO right or basis to complain.

What is this referring to? I tried searching for "slide.com" but the only hit I got was this thread.

Again, who are these people with the picture slide shows? I can't look through every member's profile to check for these things. If you see someone's signature that you believe is breaking the size rules listed above, then send me or another supermod/admin a PM with that person's username.

If the slideshow is under 250KB, then it is "legal", but if you are unsure, just let one of us know about it and we'll check it out, and take action if needed.

The rules are not set in stone, and can be changed if change is needed to make things go smoothly. If we see that certain kinds of animated signatures are causing a problem despite being within the current rules, then we will of course discuss modifying the rules to give all users a smooth browsing experience.

I am leaving work in a few minutes to catch a train to D.C. for a business trip; I will check out the ones you mentioned tonight when I get settled into my hotel. In the future, if you don't want to mention any names publicly, simply send me a PM.

well i'm not trying to burn anyone. just trying to give you an idea of what this thread is refering to

i turned off sigs a few years ago... reasons:
1. i'm not really interested in what you have.
2. if i am interested, i'll go look it up.
3. quicker page loads.
4. less scrolling.
5. less annoying.

what computers are you running 286's? I dont have any problems with resources when these things show up

if they want to ditch them I dont care its not a big deal

When not viewing a page with a slideshow sig my CPU usage is about 5%, sitting on this page with your sig is running my CPU at 35%.
