The flame thrower thing... Which probably won't work too well on this car, given the lack of fuel fumes in the exhaust, used to be done by tapping out a hole in the tailpipe, and putting a spark plug in, running to a switch connected to a twelve volt current. Mash the throttle, gas vapors push out, and get ignited by the spark. This will almost definitly destroy the muffler, too, as the flame will also spread the other way.
Rally ALS/Misfiring systems are a no-go for the streets. Highly illegal, heavy poloution, and your exhaust system will be burned out after only 100 miles, but misfiring systems are also only for turbo's... When you let off the throttle, timing is retarded to about 20ish degrees, and it pushes gas out on the exhast stroke so it's in the exhaust manifold, in front of the turbocharger's impeller, then is ignited by the latent spark. That keeps the blades spinning nice and fast as you get off the throttle, negating the affect of turbo lag by backpressure against the intake impellers. *whew*
That being said; Get a kit and try it. All it is is a spark plug with a switch. Perhaps a pezio igniter like in a lighter rather than a spark plug, but same idea. Definitly not worth it for the damage it can cause.
