Fixed the cai problem... Now more problems!

Ok... listen up fellas... just like some others have posted here... YOU HAVE A LEAK... that is what is causing this. The leak could be in several places. I take it you have a boost gauge correct? If so, what are you boosting? Are you running the little crappy stock bypass valve? You say you here it?... are you talking about the turkey? because you can not hear the stock bypass valve... all it does is recirc air, it is not atmospheric.

The very simple first thing to do is go to your local Advanced Auto or whatever parts store you have and get new vaccum lines for your turbo and intake. Get about 3 feet of 3/16" and about 3 feet of 1/4 fuel line (it has cloth reinforcements in it). Look at the bottom side of the wastegate coming off the turbo and you will see where the stock vaccum line is attached with a little crappy 90 degree connector. Pull that off and trace that line up to your intake manifold. Pull that off as well. All of that needs to be replaced. When I did mine, the intake manifold seemed to be a little smaller in size which I why I tell you to get the 2 sizes of line. I would also grab a 3/16 to 1/4 barbed reducer just in case you need it. This line is very simple to replace. Keep in mind... YOUR CONNECTIONS MUST BE TIGHT AND SEMI-HARD TO GET ON or you have the possibility of a vaccum leak. I have a manual boost controller and I thought I put everything on tight and I still had a leak so it can happen. I could hear mine though and was able to find it easily.

There are other places that leaks can occur also... which would be your hard pipes or stock pipes etc... obviously you already know the stock plastic ones crack easily.

One other thing it could be is your wastegate actuator. A friend of mine local here with an MSP had this issue. His would idle like crap etc and we can actually hear his wastegate leaking so it is going in the shop this week to hopefully get replaced under warranty.

...also check the intake pipe connection that is on the turbo to ensure it is seated correctly and tight as well... I don't have pictures for you but if you need them I would be glad to walk outside and snap a few...

Hope this helps... this is all taken from my personal experience... been there done that type crap... (cool)

ok.. i dont have a boost gauge.. and im at stock boost and i have the stock bpv!! what i hear is the turkey and the other thing i hear sounds like air leaking or being sucked in.. it sounds real weird.. but what does it sound like if the wastegate acuator is leaking??? and im sure a few pics could help

You would here a hissing sound with your car just sitting at idle down near the turbo and you can actually pinch off the vaccum line to the top and it will stop. The weird noise you hear is probably the cold air intake sucking when your turbo spools ... that is normal... that is if that is what you are hearing.

Are you still running the stock vac lines that came on the car? If so, replace them immediately because the stock ones suck and will become brittle and crack... causing leaks all over the place... mine crumbled in my hand when I replaced mine...

...and get a boost gauge man... it's the only way to know if you are overboosting or not or if you have a vac problem. You could blow your s*** up and not even know how much you are boosting... Mazda needs their ass kicked for not providing one stock on a turbo'd car... friggin dumb.

thanks for the info!! imma check and replace all the vac. lines.. i hope this can fix it!! friday im gonna run a diagnostic test on it! luckily for me my uncle can do that for free.. yay!!!

Replace the vac lines and check all your intake and turbo pipes to make sure none of them have cracks and are tight before you diag it... good luck bro...

im gonna try to do everything that i can do!! i figured a free diagnostics wont hurt!! lol.. and it really does suck that i dont have a damn boost gauge!! im with everyone else.. its so stupid to have a turbo car from the factory without one!! the gs-t eclipses do.. why cant our msps????

my msp would die right after i was done getting on it but then it fired right back up for like two weeks or so but it just stopped doing it, i dont know what it was but it went away on my car

yes this is called a vacuum leak. means you either didn't hook up the hot pipe correctly, ripped up a vac hose while working on your car, or broke something else. reset your ecu first, and see if the problem still exists. then proceed to troubleshoot by seeing if all your pipes are connected properly (required tools: eyes), and if they are see if there are any ruptured vacuum hoses, or if you forgot to connect one.

my car is doing the same thing but when i restart it after it died it doesnt rev up it just starts back normal?!?! and it only does it when im driving it hard like shifting right before redline? like (*500 rmp before redline)

well.. ive heard that sometimes stuff like that happens due to your computor getting used to things.. but i dono about it.. sometimes my car seems to be fine like nothing is wrong.. but then when i goto get on it really hard it just seems to stop dead track like it cant go anymore and keep doing it. worse then the hesitation caused by the a.f. ratio... WAY WORSE!!

WTF... is this really a leak???

yeah my car doesnt do it that bad. but its like a vacuum leak. my dads a mechanic and he should know this weekend ima try to fix it, also does anyone know what causes fuel cut? after i installed my aem cai i seem to hit fuel cut alot more???

a lil trick, get a can of carborator cleaner(in aresol can) and spray it on the vacumm hoses, when u notice the car runs a bit better, or the rpms raise up, wherever u just sprayed, is where the leak is at..

ok.. finally yesterday i gotta take my car and look at it and inspect everything realy good since it finally stopped raining and such!! and i tried the trick with the carborator trick and nothing seemed to happen!! and after just giving up and just thinkin about WHAT IN THE HELL THE PROBLEM COULD BE!! i realized what i think is wrong!!!

when i installed the intake it happened to be very late and stuff and i guess i just forgot to put the stock grommet thing around my air temp sensor.. and i believe thats causing an air leak!! DUHH!!!...... but my ? is.. would this actually cause the rpms to drop???

i need help fast...

and also.. is the thing in the attached pic the stock grommet???

So did ya get your van lines replaced?

no.. i didnt get them replaced.. but we have checked them all really good and theres no leak!! im thinking that its the hole in the intake where the grommet thing is mising

Umm.... well put it in man! ...and replace your vac lines no matter if you tested them or not... the stock lines SUCK bad and will end up giving you problems. $3 or $4 in tubing...

aye, stock lines will crack. I had to replace every single one of em especially the line running to the wastegate. A leak in the, especially a small one, would not cause it to stall, may cause it to run lean if its after the maf. My bet is that you have a leak somewhere, being that all the stock lines hardern really bad.

ok.. then.. thats what im gonna have to do!! does anyone have a link or pic of the vac line diagram??? or can take some pics or something.. because i wanna get this solved soon.. or imma go crazy!!!!!!!!
